Because it’s a dog and pony show in front of cameras. These people are actors and they say what a certain side of the isle wants to hear. Guaranteed these people don’t believe half of the things they say and do in front of cameras.

Ever since COVID the crowds in the FQ have become more black.
I deduce that it is as result of fewer vacationers in the FQ ( fewer white tourists from elsewhere in the U.S. and Europe ) and in whites in general more avoiding crowds than blacks.
It will likely swing back somewhat as tourism returns, but the FQ is definitely more ghetto since COVID. Look at photos from when the mayor was angry over FQ crowds. The crowd in the images is like 90% black.

This is naive of me, but I have never understood why the FQ is not teeming with cops on foot patrol.
I’ve walked around the FQ for hours with guests from out of town and not seen a police officer on foot the entire time.
The obvious answer as to why is budget. But you’d think the powers that be would make damn certain the FQ is safe and give it priority seeing as crime in the FQ is so harmful to tourism and makes national news where crime elsewhere in the city does not.
Personally, I would like to see all the strip clubs removed from the FQ along with the “party bars”. I realize such would adversely impact a good portion of the tourism that goes to NOLA for sex & drunkenness. But it might increase the type of tourists who are interested in history, architecture, ghost tours, and cuisine but don’t want to be around drunken partiers and strip clubs.
It is the strip clubs and the boozing that attracts the ghetto crowds. They have little interest in the FQ beyond that.

I officially amend that to “Ever since COVID there has been a change in the demographic of FQ patrons. And in response to that demographic change FQ stores are carrying more Swisher Sweet cigars.”

Only so many cops to go around. NOPD is undermanned. It's a rather disastrous situation and there likely won't be any effective leadership attracted to the force given the current state of the NOPD and the city itself.
