If someone uses your PIN and takes cash out of an ATM, you likely have no recourse.
If someone uses your card as a credit card transaction, that's on the store that accepted it without an ID.

I realize this is not doable for a lot of folks, or they just can't stay disciplined to pay it off every month. I know in the past I sure couldn't.
If you can get to that place though, it's really stupid not to do this. I use my credit card for everything, and average about $120 monthly back.

The chip and tap to pay present most POS systems with a physical authentication component. The stuff on the magnetic strip was super easy to copy and put on a cloned card. Chip and tap to pay are far, far, harder to clone. Without geeking out on encryption, they provide a relative massive security improvement over swipe and PIN. Have you noticed that if there is a chip reader and you try and swipe a card, it will almost always tell you to use the chip and not process the transaction? That's fraud reduction in action.
The caveat is that different retailers implement different card features. H-E-B doesn't support tap to pay, Total Wines requires a PIN when using tap to pay (it shouldn't), but you hit nearly anywhere in Europe, you're never asked for a PIN using tap to pay.
You credit card freaks are incorrect, it does not protect you from fraud as long as there is a card brand logo (Visa, MC, Amex, etc) on a debit or credit card, the fraud protections are the same in terms of liability when fraud is reported in a timely manner. Your individual bank policies on how they handle refunding fraudulent transactions are what matters. With banks like USAA, they will credit your account for the amount of the dispute until the fraud claim is fully investigated. With your shitty "local" banks your momma and her momma banked at in da Parish, they may not credit your account until *after* the claim is investigated.
It's not a debit/credit card issue. For example, every product with a Visa logo has to follow these rules. See the second link on the page to a PDF.

Cash is great to have. Really helps sometimes.
I carry $200 cash and make sure my wife does the same.
About the same for me. I always have cash on hand, but the wife is another story. She rarely has cash and uses my wallet as her ATM when finding herself in need of quick cash.

No pin will run it as credit. Most gas stations have a cash price and a credit card price that is 10 cents or so higher, many of them will give you the cash price if you run it as debit. However, that is likely not the case with every gas station, just something to consider.

Why would anyone still use a debit card to buy stuff?
We’d be a lot better off as a nation if more people used debit cards instead of “flexing” running up massive CC bills.
Props to the people that know their personal limits and don’t use CCs if they know they can’t handle it.

Sometimes I'll bypass the PIN by pressing enter, works most of the time.

Been that way for several years now. Some card readers still require a PIN though if they recognize the card as a debit card.

Some people can't do this consistently and lose track of how much money they have to pay off credit balances.
This was my struggle when I started using a CC for everything. Then I just started paying it off every week. Now I just pay it off every payday.

The “N” in “PIN” is for “number.”

I have a debit card so I can pull out cash at the casino, other than that everything goes on my Amex.
