You're right, she was probably better off letting them break into someones house and to get shot at over a few bucks.

The parents and cultures that are biggest on singing the praises of the value of a good arse-whipping to make sure their kids behave consistently raise the worst-behaved kids.

It's sad that you think the children's choices are 100% the fault of bad parenting. Is there no part of you that thinks these kids could've made a bad decision on their own? Have you honestly never seen a family where the parents raise two kids the same and one becomes successful but the other ends up troubled?

This. The punishment was proportional to the offense (which was not just bad behavior but extremely dangerous).

It was pretty rare. I had to have really really fricked up. I agree that the "I'm disappointed" and taking away privileges is what always did the trick. I don't have a particularly strong opinion on spanking in general. I don't think an occasional smack on the arse is a bad thing. But I can't fathom the hero status this woman has garnered
