It said the investigation found that Martin, 18, was driving his 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck at the posted speed limit, 55 mph, and had slowed down as he approached the spot where Lewis and another pedestrian were removing wooden debris from the road to the median of the four-lane highway.
The release also states that Martin switched lanes from the right to the left. Lewis walked into the right lane, but "he altered his direction of travel and began walking back towards the grass median.
"This action placed him in the direct path of the 2003 Chevrolet pickup," it reads.

It was what Martin did after the crash that caused outrage on social media. He used a racial slur to refer to Lewis and seemed more concerned about the damage to his truck than what happened to Lewis, who died on his birthday.

It seems like the driver is guilty of being an absolutely terrible person, but police can't arrest him for that. The messages to his friend after a man had just died though...

Answer for being a shite bag after killing a man accidentally. There are some things you just don't say after plowing over a man with your truck on accident .

they went around asking family and friends for a pic of him to use with the story and that was the 1 that they received

My family told me about this case.
The guy is an absolute POS. How do you kill someone, and then joke about it with friends after. With how careless he sounded, it would not surprise me if he actually did it on purpose. But claimed to the police it was accidental. But, regardless, you can't convict someone of a crime just because they are an a-hole POS.

He's a racist, white trash teenager in Hineston Louisiana, I don't think we have to worry about him going on to live a rich, fulfilled life
