Shut it all down. Ban alcohol and cars too since those two things kill college students every year as well.

Damn that's sad. Silver lining is that a healthy 19 year old dying from covid is so rare that it makes national headlines when it happens.

According to Tonia Maxcy, a family friend, doctors suspect that COVID-19 triggered an undetected case of Guillain-Barré syndrome in Dorrill. Guillain-Barré causes the body’s immune system to attack nerve cells.

This is just an end-around to blame it on Covid. If he had an undetected case of G-B syndrome before he ever even had symptoms of Covid, and he was over Covid and cleared to go back to school/life, he didn't die of fricking Covid! He died of G-B syndrome.

People story on this case

quote:

The doctor said it was a one-in-a-million case — that they’d never seen something progress the way it did. It was a COVID complication that rather than attacking his respiratory system attacked his brain.”

Now it sucks that this had to happen to an apparently great person who had a ton of life in front of him, but tragedies happen.

That's why people tend to take so many little chances because life is fleeting and we can't add more time to our lives; we get what we're destined/lucky to receive.

It is very, very, very rare. Even in this instance, it is so very extremely rare.

I believe it. Covid attacked my brain and turned me into an alcoholic. This virus is sinister.

Since it is triggered by a virus I am curious to know if someone dies from this triggered by the flu if it’s considered a flu death

Flu or any virus can cause GBS, cardiomyopathy or all kinds of bad stuff, unfortunate, but this is nothing specific to covid

I've seen/read a story where G-B syndrome was triggered by an infected splinter in a guy's foot.

We live IN THE SOUTH...so most of us know where Appy State is...the title is confusing, and made me think it was a UNC student.
