I don't know a ton of areas in Atlanta, but I have to go to Vinings for work occasionally and it seems like a nice area.

Have friends what live in Dunwoody right down the street from the Country Club. Seems like a pretty nice area to me.

A lot of North ATL suggestions in here, but I'm going to advocate for the southern suburbs for a second. Peachtree City/Tyrone/Newnan are great if you're not working in Buckhead. Less traffic, essentially zero crime, more house for your $, and the 2 public high schools in Peachtree City are both top 15 in the state. If you're single and childless do not come here- you'll be bored out of your mind on weekends- but it's a great place to raise a family.

What are the nicest areas of the Metro Atlanta area in which to live?
Thank you.

you are going to have to be more specific.

there are tons of extremely nice neighborhoods ITP but the schools suck. even in Brookhaven, you have all of these 600k+ homes, yet the schools are rated terribly (probably due to the high concentration of low income families living in apartment complexes in the area - see Buford Hwy for example).

if family isn't a concern and you are talking about places to rent, then anywhere from midtown up to buckhead would be great

To me the major deciding factor will be where you will be working. The commutes can be horrible depending on work and home location. A nice area has less appeal if you are spending 3 hours in the car every day.

I visit Atkins Park, east of Atlanta, every year and it's a nice neighborhood. Within walking distance, North Highland Road, of restaurants and a plethora of bars.

Unfortunately you're pretty far out there and surrounded by hood/rednecks.

Clearly you know nothing about Peachtree City and Senoia. Quite a few of Atlanta's professional athletes live in Peachtree City and Senoia has a bustling movie/TV industry. It's where they film The Walking Dead.

I think only really people from PC think its part of the Metro. I just consider it a town nearby, but its a hefty commute considering where most people work. Great if you are in the airline industry though, hence a large segment of the population

There’s far too many neighborhoods with different vibes that appeal to different people. Since no interests or specifics were given in OP I’ll state my top picks for 30-somethings with good schools and walkable downtowns with some of the best food and brew in the city:

ITP - Decatur
OTP - Roswell

Not to be a dick, but I know all there is to know about Peachtree City/Senoia.

Senoia isn't really large enough to get excited about, although it's something different/pleasant in the vast "southern crescent" of nothingness. Peachtree City/South Fayette is an island surrounded by pretty undesirable areas.

You're a looooong way from almost any job that isn't Porsche or Chick-fil-a or Delta. It's a horrendous commute (Newnan-Buckhead was once ranked the worst commute in America). You will never, ever get public transportation.

Anyway, this all started by remarking those places are surrounded by either ghetto or redneck areas - which is true.

The thing about Decatur is that you have to live in the actual city limits in order to get the quality Decatur City Schools. If you live on the wrong side of the street but still have city zip code, you go to Dekalb County schools. Definitely get a realtor if buying in Decatur.

Mt Paran area is the most elite. But for best upper middle class would be East Cobb

Do this many people still commute to work? I work from home, and have for the last 10 years or so, only leaving to make client visits or grab lunch.. i know the *majority* of jobs aren’t like that, but i have to think that jobs that require commuting to an office in 2019 are way, way less than 95%(?)

Couldn’t pay me enough to have to sit in rush hour traffic ever again, but then again i never enjoyed the ‘camaraderie’ of an office, there’s too much water-cooler BS and office politics at play.

man, that was the sticks back in the late 80s. Used to go to a polo club up that way and it seemed like it took forever to get there.

Atlanta metro blew the frick up from the Olympics, prob totally different if you haven't been since then.

I lived in Marietta. Great area. All those places are similar, I drive a few blocks to the river, I'm in Roswell. I drive a little further I'm in Sandy springs.

It's like if your living in North cobbb/Cherokee area. It has a similar feel.

Most areas are nice and it really depends on how far from the city or your job you want to be. A lot of the burbs have good public schools because the parents give a shite.
