What are the nicest areas of the Metro Atlanta area in which to live?

Pretty much the only decent areas inside 285 are in between I-75N and I 85 N.

Earlier this month I spent a week in several areas of ATLANTA and my observation is that the citizens are conceeding and heading to the new shiney burbs way too early on many of the neighborhoods. A lot of other southern city's have already lost the battle to the culcha and have no hope. But the good guys would rather move next to the newest outlet mall and they didn't mind taking the MLB team out to the burbs with them.

That’s because tear down homes are selling for 2-300k in order to build new homes. Otherwise you are starting at 400+ for a shack
