It seems the bureaucrats have to hike their leg on the next flight first. Must make them feel important.

And a Starship refueling test has been in the offing for a while now. In October 2020, NASA awarded SpaceX $53 million to conduct such a trial in Earth orbit. The contract calls for SpaceX to transfer 11 tons (10 metric tons) of liquid oxygen between tanks inside a Starship vehicle. (Starship's Raptor engines run on supercold liquid oxygen and liquid methane.)

quote:

NASA has a keen interest in the development of Starship, SpaceX's next-generation deep-space transportation system. The agency selected Starship to be the first crewed lunar lander for its Artemis program, which aims to establish a permanent, sustainable human presence on and around the moon by the end of the 2020s.

quote:

It's unclear when Starship's third flight will occur. The vehicle should be ready soon, SpaceX founder and CEO Elon Musk has said, but technical hurdles aren't the only ones the company must overcome. SpaceX still must secure a launch license from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, which is overseeing an investigation into what happened during last month's launch.

The blue bloods of the space industry are doing everything they can to slow down SpaceX, especially after NASA said SLS was unsustainable.

They're not hitting that goal.

you don't think there should be any regulation at all when it comes to launching shite into orbit?

We should all be able to launch rockets from in our backyards as we please? even this guy if he buys a house in America?

As we saw following the 1st Starship launch... the FAA & SpaceX work together on the "mishap investigation"

The report that will be released will essentially be SpaceX's report on what caused the failures with FAA saying "yeah we agree on the proposed fixes"

Since the ground infrastructure survived the 2nd launch mostly intact... I would imagine February or March for next flight

transferring 10 metric tons for a trial? Did not the crazy Russian show that can be done in the movie about oil well drillers blowing up an asteroid on its way to destroy earth? His special skill was beating on the pipes with a 24 inch pipe wrench

Are you even following this?

If they wanted SpaceX to fade they just needed to do nothing. It’s funding from the “blue bloods” that kept SpsceX alive and allowed for development of starship

I have to reluctantly agree with you.
All of the timelines are ridiculous as it stands.

It’ll be interesting in any case and I wish them all the luck because I really want to see a Starship successfully landing on the moon and returning to a perfect chopstick landing.

They’re not hitting that goal ever. It’s not possible.

Ehhhhh

Maybe. Gateway is intended to be operational far short of that deadline.

It still amazes me what NASA did in the 60’s. Going from never having anything in space to landing on the Moon in one decade was incredible. My dad was a NASA engineer during that time.

IFT-3 will happen by March.
We will see the cadence pick up more and more as they get better and better at meeting flight objectives.
But Starship ain’t carrying people from the launch tower for at least 5-7 years. Artemis III might not happen for another 4-5. Gonna need dozens and dozens of cargo/Starlink flights first.

for what it's worth... it looks like SpaceX is prepping to roll something out tonight

there are notices out for "road delays" around the Starbase facility until 2 AM

maybe Booster 10 gets rolled out to the orbital launch mount

maybe Starship S28 gets rolled out to the suborbital launch pad to go through its testing... cryo-proofing, spin prime, & static fire

Care to share your reasoning or just standing pat that you know better than people who do more complex calculations in one day than you've done in your entire life?
