Treasure hunter accused the FBI of stealing the gold he found. I vaguely recall hearing something about this. Is someone familiar with the story that can offer more details ?

Yes.
The gold was in the coffin next to Arch Stanton, under Unknown.

Back in 2014 or maybe a little before I thought they had found something like that near Millen Ga close to Magnolia Springs State Park. All of a sudden pretty much overnight they fenced in a large area of land and it was obvious something was up.

Turned out to be artifacts from a Confederate POW camp that was there briefly during the war, apparently a pretty big one

Are you sure that you want it? Others will be coming to you for their "reparations."

Old baw is going after the Philly mint now. If he gets too close to a real answer, he will suddenly feel suicidal.

Don't know anything about that one in Penn.

There have long been rumors of a fortune in silver and gold buried somewhere around Wilkes County/Washington, Georgia. When Richmond fell and the Confederate government evacuated, part of the escaping group took as much of the gold from the Confederate treasury as possible.

By May 4th the group had reached Washington and there they held the last cabinet meeting of the Confederate States, with Jeff Davis signing the paperwork that officially disbanded the country.

No one knows what happened to the remains of the treasury, but there have long been rumors that silver and gold coins are buried/hidden somewhere in the vicinity.

The problem is people find something like that and don't keep their mouths shut. Sell that stuff a little at a time in many different places.
