Okay, now I can see why people are speculating shark attack. The location where he fell overboard was a lot closer to land than I thought. Mako is out. Tiger, white tip or hammer head are the likely species IF there was a shark attack.

Liable for the kid jumping off, no, but for the captain not making every possible effort to save him, yes. The captain is responsible for all souls onboard. Bad decisions or not, MOB procedures such as marking with the MOB button/ immediately coming about/putting all available crew on alert to track the MOB and relay relative positions to the captain….maybe they did and maybe they didn’t…but it’s 100% on the captain and his actions once notified of a MOB situation. Depending on Bahamian law, could be his employers problem too.
Man overboard at night is insanely hard to do even in the best of conditions. This was a storm on a vessel that doesn't have super fancy auto detection like Disney Cruise Lines which even fail a good bit of the time. They don't appear to have those super crazy insanely bright flashlights that cruise ships have been seen using lately either.
As soon as he went out of sight, it's pretty much game over for a ship like that to find him. The military even fail these procedures at night and you expect a crappy pirate ship booze cruise to be able to do this shite? The fault lies solely with the person that jumped.
Ring was thrown and they stayed out there awhile looking for him, best they could do.

Cannot believe a paid booze cruise is not required by insurance to have a skiff on board that can be launched
Even if they did. It all happened to fast.

You need to be banned. You're the resident board kook, and grab onto any conspiracy theory that's available and run it into the ground. I'd love to see your admin PM's, I bet there are some gems in there.

The video is posted. It’s not a conspiracy theory and I’m not gonna shut up just because some stranger tells me to.
I have no idea what you’re talking about with admin PMs. Is this something you get often?
So many commies in the OT with the ban mentality.

Came here to say Cam was a great kid, with great parents. I knew this young man through baseball, he played with my son for a couple years. He was always smiling and pretty happy kid but was fiercly competetive and a pretty damn good player. Just thought some would like to know that.
Please say a prayer for this young man's family.
And to the POS that continously claims she know it was a shark attack, when clearly thats his right foot surfacing and kicking the surface with a large splash on page 30, instead of saying GFY, I'll say a prayer for you too. Why do you want your rumor to be true so bad? you seem deranged.

It’s italicized bc I was quoting the person who posted the video.

This is absolutely correct. It baffles me that anyone could possibly dispute this. He was clearly swimming towards the orange buoy, spotted the shark fin and immediately (and calmly) started swimming away from the buoy.
How anybody can watch the video and not see this leaves me gobsmacked.
Also people are saying that the kids on the boat would have been screaming "shark", but that's why I posted the Reddit thread. Someone with experience on boats that have sharks regularly trailing rightly points out that sharks are dark on top, so even in the daylight it's not easy to spot them from above.

So let me get this straight, the guy in the water, bobbing up and down with the wave action could clearly see a shark so he swam the other way? But 300 people on a boat, approximately 20+ feet above the water, couldn't see the shark because it's dark on top?

Maturity is a big part of dealing with alcohol, hence why drinking age limits exist. Parents letting their underage kids drink are part of the problem. Teenagers do stupid enough things not under the influence of alcohol. Not sure if this kid had been drinking, but the general point stands.
Yet other western cultures don’t have this problem with much younger drinking ages.
Destigmatizing at an early age is a better call.

the fact that anyone is asking admins to ban others in this thread baffles me. no one knows what happened and everyone is speculating. isn’t that what this forums is for

If people don’t understand this simple logic then they are truly hopeless. grasping to some shitty grainy footage as if they are magically seeing something no one on the boat saw.
