Thankfully it was only a simulation.

quote:

College Park (United States) (AFP) - After devastating the French Riviera in 2013, destroying Dhaka in 2015 and saving Tokyo in 2017, an international asteroid impact simulation ended Friday with its latest disaster -- New York in ruins.

Despite a simulated eight years of preparation, scientists and engineers tried but failed to deflect the killer asteroid.

The exercise has become a regular event among the international community of "planetary defense" experts.

And the worst part of it all is it was politics that caused New York to get wiped out.

quote:

Three impactors managed to hit the asteroid. The main body was deflected, but a smaller fragment broke off and continued on a deadly path, this time towards the eastern US.

Washington considered sending a nuclear bomb to deflect the 60-meter rock -- repeating a successful strategy that saved Tokyo last year -- but it was crippled by political disagreements.

This is the southern members of the OT’s wet dream.

ETA in before they should train astronauts to be drillers and not the other way around.

They wasted eight years trying to save the city instead of just spending eight years relocating the important stuff (like the delis and pizza shops)? Next one of those frickers who complains about us taking three days to evacuate for a hurricane gets a broken nose.

If the Red Sox then won every World Series going forward, it would be 2039 before they passed the Yankees in titles.

And I’m a Sox fan.

I can’t express to you how little I care about that statistic.

Go Sox and all, but whether or not they have more titles than the Yankees is not something that occupies time in my mind. I just like going to Fenway and enjoying the atmosphere.

I don't have to. Your quote from your OP. Did YOU RTFA?

Again. Read the article. There’s a lot of detail you’re missing, namely that the asteroid wasn’t even heading for New York.

Ahh. I see now. I RTFA.

So, instead of spending six to eight years evacuating Denver, they spent six to eight years to Keystone Kops their way into destroying NYC.

New York is America’s greatest city and probably the greatest city the world has ever known. Never forget 9/11.

They did save Denver. And they could have saved New York. But they let politics prevent them from launching nukes to blow up the chunk heading there.

Maybe they just subconsciously liked Denver better than NYC and shrugged politically once Denver was in the clear.

Without reading the article, did they allude to Trump or Conservatives being at fault? Scientists, who one would think would think critically, are oftentimes liberal loons.

I imagine many of you were happy with the events of September 11, 2001.
