Up to 2 inches in higher elevations. I assume higher elevations must just mean Chattanooga, etc.
I would think places in northeast AL will also be included in that. I wouldn’t be surprised to see some accumulation as far south as Birmingham. A lot of what falls will melt though.

South Central Georgia getting tornado warnings, and under TW now. That wasn't forecasted as of three hours ago. NWS dropping the ball.

I need to make some changes. I don't need to get the same alert for a Winter Storm Warning that I get for a tornado. I just had the local news app set off a tornado siren in my pocket.

It's already 30 degrees here. We won't be back above freezing until late tomorrow morning.

Wasn't posted here and wasn't on the local GA weather report, they only had the extreme NW corner of GA in any kind of watch.

Uh oh....they're forecasting 2-3" of snow for us. It will only be below freezing for around 9 hours. That's plenty of time to shut down the entire area.

The roads ought to be warm enough to eat most of that but elevated roadways are laughing in the background, ready to strike.

I’m guessing everything here in TN will be fine. Looks worse in Carolina/VA

If anyone is interested in what caused the overachieving snow in North AL, @UAHSWIRLL has tweeted all of their soundings throughout the day. They show pretty much exactly what happened. I'd imagine that data will really help snow forecasting in this area in the future.

quote:

Our final UAH sounding (0345Z/9:45pm CST) shows why this winter wx event has overachieved. Rapid cooling of the warm layer, consistent lifting w/ saturation in the snow growth region, steep-ish mid-to-upper level lapse rates for cloud top generating cells. #HUNwx #alwx #tnwx LINK

Snow falling pretty decently in Mountain Brook, AL. Definitely enough to stick through the morning.

Just waking up to a good blanket of snow around the Alabama/Tennessee state line.
Haven't measured yet but it fell most all night.

At least 3 inches here! More in some spots. Slow but beautiful run this morning. Time to get kids geared up and playing out there.

You met baws have a shot with the NWS again this year:

31 job openings across the country

Duke, for the love of all that is good and kind, put in for the Memphis job and help straighten them out.
