Companies in a range of industries are beginning to rescind job offers they made just a few months ago, despite the strong labor market.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Twitter, real estate brokerage Redfin and cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase Global have all rescinded job offers in recent weeks. Employers in other pockets of the economy are also pulling job offers, including some in insurance, retail marketing, consulting and recruiting services.

When a company revokes a job offer, it signals that its business outlook has changed so quickly that it has to undo hiring plans made sometimes just weeks before. Read the full story.

Don’t really care. Mortgage and real estate companies have made so much money the last 2 years. Now they are panicking because they’re greedy and didn’t see this coming.

Not even a month ago, firms were sending me offers damn near daily. Granted, I’m in sales so it’s kinda expected (hiring a sales guy is cheap) but I haven’t gotten any offers now in weeks. My business has slowed down noticeably, but it makes me wonder how bad things must be getting at other firms.

They aren’t just sitting. They are accepted and are now being canceled.

And I think these are often college hires.

We hire in the fall for positions that start in June. It gives us an advantage in recruiting and helps us lock down ideal candidates before they are taken.

If big companies were smart, they'd trim all the superfluous ESG motivated investments that don't produce returns and focus on core competencies.

Many of these new hires at Fortune 100 firms probably think they're hired to remake society not actually work for company in a competitive environment where nothing is guaranteed.

My company regularly makes offers to experienced professionals before their current contract runs out. And we go for college hires 1-2 semesters out from graduation.

From the linked WSJ article.

“I just couldn’t believe what I was hearing—like it’s a job I had had lined up for months and I really was counting on it,” said Franco Salinas, 24 years old, who learned this month that a data-analyst position he planned to start in July had been axed. “This just made me realize how fragile things are.”

I have been in this exact situation. It sucks.

I have accepted a job offer and not started it for a few months.

When i was on commission, i had to do that or else i would have been working for free for months if i left without delivering equipment. Honestly that stretch was the best few months of my old shite job. All i cared about was stuff i could close ASAP and get paid on. My blood pressure dropped significantly

frick working for a huge corporation. You are nothing but a data entry in the payroll system and nobody making decisions about employment probably has never even met you.

Don’t really feel bad for anyone this is happening to, all of the mentioned companies would improve society if they ceased to exist.

The year before I graduated there were mass layoffs of people that had been on the job less than a year. It happens.
