Take the manager of the tire place out back and frick him, that usually brings price down about 10-15%

Dry rotted? Your tires have date code on the sidewall. They may have been made considerably before you bought them. Is there evidence of cracking on the sidewalls? If so, or they are older than you think, the tire shop could be legit. You can Google how to read the tire date code.
Second, for any tire, get a price from Discount Tire and Costco/Sam's. They will almost always be within a few dollars of the lowest price you will find.
Third, of all the things in the world you can cheap out on, tires are NOT one of them. Buy a major name brand, not the Chinese knockoffs. A better tire will stop shorter, corner harder, and let you get away with emergency maneuvers that a cheap tire won't, while maintaining its performance far better as it wears. Ten feet of stopping distance doesn't sound like much, until it's the ten feet that saves you and your passenger's lives.

Dry rotting seems like their go to excuse
HOWEVER I know tires when I look at them. I can't advise anyone when I can't see their tires. Only you can make that decision.
So what did I do? It is her primary driver. She was uncomfortable with tires based on what "expert" said. She had a long trip coming up with 2 friends (neither lightweight) and all their stuff. We ain't exactly broke and what is 4 more half worn tires in a landfill? I changed them and upgraded.
Too expensive and too wasteful on the environment to throw away when they are half worn vs safety concerns. Thats your quandary. Good luck.

Buy them online, go to a tire shop and have them do it or ask how much to rent their machine for an hour and do it yourself. It’s actually quite easy.
My ex wife ended up pregnant that way.

Dry rotted sounds like BS on tires 4 to 5 years old.
This. Dry rot is easy to spot on tires. Look for small cracks, especially on the sidewalls of the tires. It would be better to let about 1/2 the air out of your tires so the sidewalls can get compressed to better show up and be sure to roll you vehicle forward or backward to check all around the tires.
If you don't see any telltale cracks, then that guy is full of it. Then just plug or patch the tire and roll on.

Mopar has buy 3 gut one for a dollar promotion going on now. Go online, pick the tires u want, get the qutoe off the website then contact Discount Tire who will match the price. I've done this three times without hassle and it save hundreds(like $300 if you are going with anAT tire for a truck)
You're welcome.

I work at a CDJR dealership. Right now we have a buy 3 get one for a dollar deal. Assuming 265/60R18. Toyo proxes st, at my store would be $937.85 out the door with an alignment

I have some extreme doubt that this is a factual statement. On both parts.

Only thing i don't like about Discount Tire is they don't do alignments...

The one on Bluebonnett does.

Discount Tire is the best store. Always give them a call.
I’ve been everywhere. Have zero ties to them but that place is a unicorn.

I think they added this service last year. My local ones do. $90 and I have tried it on one vehicle and it seemed as good as my dealer. I have had some issues with alignments from tireshops before so I was very leery. Glad it seems they are doing it right.

They will fix any repairable flat for free regardless of where the tire came from. They also do free rotations for anyone regardless of where tires were purchased. They used to do free balancing, too, but that stopped a few years ago.

If the DOT dates on the tires are 5 years old then it's time to let them go.
Someone should tell that Vice Grip Garage guy.
I've seen him drive 600 miles on 30 year old tires.

Or just rent the same type of truck and switch the tires out

I mean, did you look at them? Are they dry rotting? Pretty simple to tell if they are being truthful or not.
