t was almost twice the size in the 1990s though. So the violent crime rate would be lower back then, right

Population in the city was just under 500k in 1990.

It’s around 390k today.

So, the city limits have about 20% fewer people living there.

I hope those 2 percent were just trolling.

And they’re nearly all from L.A. or NYC metros.

It’s less than 400,000 today. So 100 murders nets a much higher murder rate today than it did 35 years ago.

But what about the reasons why there’s everything I like about it?

Who the fuk are these people? Am guessing the mayor, DA and city counsel are in that number.

Next new survey shows most New Orleans residents will vote to reelect Mayor Queen Latoya, thus demonstrating the frustratingly illogical ignorance of the general electorate.

They don't blame LaToya for crime getting worse. They blame... whitey, economics, lack of midnight basketball, etc.

As a suburb resident, I feel perfectly safe going anywhere in the city during the day... would not feel safe in some places in the middle of the night.

They should probably blame the shitty DA's and judges along with LaToya.

But I'm afraid New Orleans, like a lot of American cities, is spiraling into a period of steep decline. Hopefully temporary.

These are people that won't accept one negative thing to be said about the city.

Dude come on. There are Def some streets, not talking main streets with heavy traffic, that you would not walk down without your head on a swivel or being aware.

That's not safe.

It does, but there were years in the 90s that had over 450 murders.

The murder rate in 1994 was almost double what it was in 2020. Murders are up 50% so far in 2021, so they’re on pace roughly to split the difference
