I have ZERO sympathy for stupid arse mother freakas regardless of gender.
Should she have been shot? We can debate that all day, but if this cop is a good cop with a good rap sheet frick this stupid trick and don't ruin this cops life over this fool.
Guess what? Had she done what she was told and been a citizen not acting to injure or kill another she would not have been shot.

cause he was not prepared to solve the problem. not trained to desclate(sp) the scene.

I don’t get why anyone would want to go into a profession with the mindset you can kill someone wo facing any consequences.

Unnecessary in my view. They could’ve been bagged her arse instead.
@ been. I meant "bean"

Bad shoot.
Short of reasonable fear for life or life of those nearby - don’t shoot someone.
A shovel might catch him a bruise or cut but she wasn’t going to do serious damage. Compound that with him doing it when there’s safe distance and no need to press the situation. Give her space, clear the scene, talk her down and wait for backup unless she straight bum rushes you (and I won’t be terribly upset if you shoot but even then a good officer should likely be able to resolve it without lethal force)

Good thing this cop wasn’t around when this happened.

My arm-chair QB assessment...
I also agree that he should have used a taser.
And if the damn Las Vegas Metro Police Department can't afford to arm their officers with tasers, then they have some serious budget issues that need to be addressed.
The officer also advanced on her instead of just remaining defensive until backup arrived.

why don't they carry a clip with rubber bullets? Those things would stop most, if not everyone

It's easy for me to try and come up with solutions, but I have no idea what's practical.
Would be interesting if they could carry a taser or a certain type of weapon (perhaps rubber bullet weapon) on one side of their body to use for non lethal purposes. And then have a lethal weapon on the other. This situation is simply one drunken-like woman by herself with a shovel and not a whole lot of people around. If he felt so threatened by her why not order everyone around to go inside? Perhaps he did?
This did not appear to be a pressing need to act swiftly. He would have time to go to an alternative method of action IMO.
One time my stupid brain tried to come up with a method of using some sort of fish-net like device and trapping these type of mofos. Or busting out a lasso all cowboy like. In all seriousness, I feel he had time to continue distracting her and getting everyone away while backup arrived.

Not all LEOs carry a taser. They don't have to carry one. If they do carry one they have to go through training including being tazed and in the words of one buddy of mine who is now a retired LEO "frick getting tazed".

Another Live Leak Video shows an OKC cop physically beating a teenage girl on a bike bc she shoved her license (ID) at him in an aggressive weapon like manner. AN ID IN HER HAND THAT HE ASKED FOR! And no, he wasn’t punished for beating her and pepperspraying her.
What occurred in another department at another time has nothing to do with this situation.

Her race does not matter and should not even be a topic. You have to be more than “feel threatened” in order to use deadly force.
It is absolutely the same standard. If there were individuals closer to the suspect, if the suspect was advancing on the LEO in an agreeesive manner swinging the shovel stating she was going to harm him. Then maybe he could articulate this into a good shoot. However, video shows the suspect not advancing towards the officer, but retreating. The office advanced towards the suspect. His advancement ends his argument of “feeling threatened”
This is a bad shoot, and this officer should face disciplinary action.

I know this will not be popular opinion....but if he perceived she was going after the guy on the sidewalk....shoot will probably be justified under Graham v. Connor
Now personally I think he should have tried to put hands on her but one of the main aspects of determining justification is the officers perception. So it would be interesting what his statement is.
If he says he thought she was going after the guy over on the side.....it will be ruled justified

This is incorrect.
Graham v. Connor recognizes the fact that officers are tasked with the job of protecting the public and for that reason supports going to the threat.

Just taking her down or tasering should have worked.
But if you have a weapon and don't listen to several commands from a cop to drop it, then you brought it on yourself.

Could a shovel be used as a deadly weapon? If the answer is yes (and it certainly is), then having his gun out was the correct call.
Suspect having a deadly weapon does not equal use of non lethal force. So the taser, pepper spray, etc argument is out of the question.
You can question whether or not she could have done serious damage to him with the shovel. That's not for that officer to take the chance of finding out. A shovel to the head can kill a person. He shouldn't assume just because she is intoxicated, she can't do him much harm.
Do I think he will be prosecuted for it? Absolutely not. Could he have probably handled it better, to where shooting her didn't have to happen? Most probably (same as Sterling).
In a perfect situation you wait for multiple other officers to arrive. Use strength in numbers to try to make her give up. Use non lethal force, if given the opportunity, because now you have the numbers. There usually isn't a perfect situation though.

bad shoot. it's a woman with a shovel. fricking tackle her. also, that was the perfect scenario for a fricking taser.
