The City of New Orleans has always strongly influenced American culture.

The city’s influence still rings true as Southern Living magazine editors and readers rate the city among the South’s best.

I mean look, I live in NOLA, but that is pretty absurd. If FLorida counts as the South there are probably 5 cities in Florida alone that are better places to live.

It's not even a good place to visit, much less live there.

Obviously they are not factoring in economic opportunities or cost of Insurance

If tourists would just stick to the tourist areas, they'd be safe. They get in trouble when they get too drunk and wander off the beaten path.

Maybe they got confused about St Tammany and Jefferson, thinking they're New Orleans

My only takeaway from reading that is that the author probably hasn't visited any of those places, or at least not recently.

Also, they have Tulsa, Oklahoma listed in their top 25. When did Oklahoma become part of the south?

I can't stand it whenever people hate on New Orleans.

YES, it is a double edge sword: beautiful homes and walkable neighborhoods uptown and delicious food all through the city... and then there's the lower 9th ward where crime is an everyday reality, flooding, etc.

YES, it has its flaws...but the special beauty about the city cannot be found anywhere else in the world.

I.e. Mardi gras. We have a house on napoleon ave and open it up for open house every year and more than 1/2 of the people i don't even know but its such a fun time cooking for everyone and providing hospitality. some of the people are from all over the world. its just something you dont see anywhere else in the world and really gives me hope for humanity.

Well sure, but my point is that any major international city has pockets of crime that tourists should avoid. I took your comment to mean that NO is unique in that way.

If you want a safe and fairly boring bigger city to settle down, New Orleans isn't the place.

But, there's certainly no city in the south that I recommend more for a visit. It's truly unique in so many good ways.

nope, just pointing out that if you have to be confined to certain areas, is it really safe?

St Pete isn't boring - their downtown area not far from the soccer field or Tropicana is pretty fun.

I know lot of people from Oklahoma that consider themselves to be from the south. It's kind of odd.
