Car thefts, car jackings, home invasions, car burglaries, arm robberies are all up.

Murders are down but 99% of the murders are/were thugs killing thugs so murders being down im not sure that’s really a good thing.

Obviously it's just a coincidence, but the murder rate actually did really take a dive once the Lee statue came down.

Pretty funny given the unrelenting gnashing of teeth about how Mitch didn't care about crime.

shite I remember at least a handful of people here claimed the murder rate would skyrocket because so much attention was being diverted to the statues.

I still think Mitch was a shitty mayor

New Orleans police had investigated 137 murders this year.

Investigated is the key word here. How many murders happen in the east that’s not reported or the police really doesn’t look into?

Technically, man slaughter is homicide. I don’t know how they keep the stats, but I’d bet they measure “homicides” and not “murders.” I could be wrong.

I’m contrast Acapulco had 953 murders for 700,000 residents. We should open the borders.

sounds pretty close to the per capita rate of 93-94 new orleans

or maybe New Orleans being a crime infested shithole is overstated based on its history..........

If the trend continues for this year, they will finish with about 142 murders for the year.

Although that may be New Orleans’ lowest total since 1971, that is still a murder rate of 36 per 100,000 people, which would still make it one of the most violent cities in the country.

It would be around #4 right behind Detroit, Baltimore, and St. Louis. But I guess it’s a far cry from 1994 when New Orleans’ murder rate of 94 per 100,000 made it the most violent city ever in U.S. history, and one of the most violent cities in the entire world.

So your point makes absolutely no sense.

5 people killed in the first half of the year, and another 3 who are in OPP, are the reason for the decline.

Nola was at 151 in 2017 with a population of about 393K . NYC had 290 murders with a population of over 8.6 million. Less than twice the murders, abut 22 times the population. It may be going in the right direction but it still has a long way to go.

I moved to Austin from NO and still can't believe Austin's numbers. Almost 1 million people in city limits and less than 40 murders.

It has nothing to do with the number of people.

It’s all about demographics.

That's because all of the thugs are moving to surrounding parishes.

And that's not a bad thing because the surrounding parishes have much better resources to handle them and not having a concentration of so many thugs in one small area helps.

They say it's a very small percentage of the population that commits the most murders, so maybe they have been lucky at getting the worst off the streets as well.
