What happened? 51st now.
A lot of older cities are the same land area they were a hundred years ago. In contrast, a lot of cities in the West have practiced annexation and sprawl to achieve greater land area and lower population density.

I considered this.
4th to 51st seems like a huge drop since just 1940. Was wondering if Metairie used to be considered as part of the city back then or something.

Except for Old Metairie, what we think of as Metairie today was swampland in 1940.

Sort of my thinking while I watched this. These people had no idea that in a few short years, the US would be in one of the worlds most deadliest conflicts. How many people shown in the video died in WWII....love seeing the 1930s type cars driving the street. The way of life so different....
