NOLA
How would you like to live on one of these streets when inputting your address in on a credit card application or better yet how many people are just going to say screw it my GPS can't figure out where in the hell I am or give up even trying to type the name of the street.
My three fan favorites of course are (a) Mama D whose infamous "Baaaaa Booooooom" testimony before Congress made the uninformed believe the levees were blown up by white people to kill African Americans; (b) Judge Ivan Lemelle who is still alive, and (c) Lois Ellie who help create more racial division in the city than just about anyone else in the modern era.
Dyan French "Mama D" Cole Street
Father Louis J. Twomey Street
John "Jack" Nelson Place
Judge Ivan L.R. Lemelle Street
Allison "Tootie" Montana Avenue
Judge John Minor Wisdom Park
Lolis Elie Sr. Street
Leontine Goins Luke Street
Doris Jean Castle Drive
Henry James "Red" Allen Street
Sherwood "Woody" Gagliano Avenue

If it's white, make it black.

Some streets are just named after slaves too. The description was like "he was a slave that escaped from the McDonough plantation, little is known of his life after that".

We have to do something. These street names are passively oppressing our community and causing crime and poverty. Once they're all changed, NOLA will be Wakanda.

Dyan Cole or Cole St will work if we are being forced to do this shite.

That will be fun on any electronic form. They’re never long enough for street names like that. 20 years ago, I briefly lived in a shitty apartment on a street named Rue de Belle Maison. It was such a pain in the arse.

Creating racial division while Black and having been oppressed for 400 years vs. creating racial division while white are LITERALLY NOT the same thing, you racist, xenophobic, bigot! I'm literally shaking.
/sarcasm for the downvoters.

Nothin will ever beat when the misspelled Louisiana signs made it all the way to being put in the ground before anyone noticed

Apostrophes don't belong in street names. Either embrace the nickname and use it unadorned (e.g. Bob Lee Blvd.) or use the full name (Robert E. Lee Blvd.)
We do not need Robert E. "Bob" Lee Blvd.

Why wouldn’t they just use last names like the streets that are being renamed were?
Those names aren’t bad if they’re shortened to just last names but the length of almost all of them if they stay that way are ridiculous.
ETA: clearly this committee isn’t taking into account filling out these street names on paperwork or letters. Jesus.

Isn't there already a Nelson Place (or Street)? Just pass a resolution saying it's named after him. That's what St. Bernard did with Judge Perez Highway.

NOLA is a mess.
e.g.,
go to Dyan French "Mama D" Cole Street
left on
Father Louis J. Twomey Street
straight to
John "Jack" Nelson Place
right on
Judge Ivan L.R. Lemelle Street
etc.

Try to type all that in on your gps. Its reply, "Nope, you are on your own".

What a great use of tax payer $.
normal Spring showers may have the water up to said street signs, but at least it won’t be named after a bunch of white men.

Whoever was responsible for those street signs probably just spelled "Louisiana" like they pronounced it "Lou-siana"

Has Nola.com or The Advocate released an article on the financial costs of all of these street name changes?

Great googly moogly!
There's also "Zimple" at Broadway, a few "Fourcher" Streets, and a "Vicxen".
