It is probably the way the dept reports of classifies the crime.

I was talking about nation wide. Not NOLA specific. I should have specified. I read the stat recently in a medical article discussing this same thing. Same amount of shoot em ups, less dead people.

Katrina 14 years ago, significant migration to other areas of those on Government Assistance, 3-8 year old demographic of future criminals aren't in New Orleans today to shoot each other...but enough still are to make it a shite hole.

But it did allow for some neighborhoods to get better, so perception is reality.

If by fact you mean total fiction, then yeah.

Murder as a percentage of the population in this country had been declining since the late 70s/early 80s. It's been holding steady for a few years and looks like it may be heading down once again. The violent crime rate has been decreasing since 1995.

The perception that anything other is true is purely due to the current 24 hour new cycle that includes hyperbole and histrionics aimed at bolstering one political/ideological position or another.
