Ban bars! Alcohol is bad for you.

I own a bar. Smoking is allowed and 70% of the patrons that come in smoke. Do I hear bitching fron some of the other 30% ? Yes but I politely tell them of a smoke free bar down the road. Most don't leave because my bar is fun as frick.I own the bar and feel as long as everyone knows before entering its a smoke friendly bar they can make a choice before hand.

the bars up here are all non-smoking and it's really nice

as a reformed smoker, i agree it is nice that 90% of places up here are non-smoking. (TN left a few liberal loop-holes).

But just because it's nice, doesn't mean the government should be making decisions for me as both a business owner and consumer.

Again in the same market where can a non-smoker choose to gamble in New Orleans?

So you think it is the governments responsiblity to guarantee a smoke free casino?

Which was?

you could choose a smoking or non-smoking bar. if you chose the smoking bar the trade off was being around smoke

You can still smoke outside.

that is comparing apples and oranges

if it had been legal before, and they just passed this law, I promise, plenty of people would be saying it was/is bullshite

I don't get this argument

So stepping outside to smoke isn't a choice anymore? I must have missed something. The article said that was still legal?

The person who owns the establishment should be able to decide this.

You are looking at this purely at a public health perspective of smoking not being healthy.

I hate smoking and almost lost 2 family members to it, I do not support smoking in any way.

What I do support though are my liberties that are bestowed on me as an American. With that comes freewill in PRIVATELY owned places. If the government wants to ban smoking in places like parks, then I'm fine with that because the government owns it.

I say where does it end, because one day something that you enjoy will be forcibly taken away from you by the government and you won't like it. Just like I don't like smoking, but I know this opens the doors to other things.

No I think its the governments responsibility to not write a law preventing a casino from opening that would like to have a smoke free area.

I would love to go to New Orleans back when I was 20 years old on a Saturday. Gamble at Harrahs that night win 50k tax free. frick a prostitute and then buy a car on a Sunday. But alas I am oppressed and cannot do so without breaking a law.

I'm not disagreeing with you necessarily, but the fact is that the government does this in a million ways, it's just that smoking is a much touchier subject than many of the other things the government regulates.

and bar means an establishment that primarily sells alcohol and a smoking bar means you can smoke inside of it. non-smoking bars do not allow smoking inside

now smokers are not given a choice. they must go to non-smoking bars. those are the only choice

To get technical, you can still smoke at any bar that chooses to have an outdoor area for smokers. There are choices, juts not the choices some people want.

The government all ready has laws dictating how a business does business. This ruling is nothing new. Some people see it as protecting people's health, some don't. This goes with not selling to blacks and things like that.

Correct. I pay a shite ton of local, state taxes to have the right to say what beer I want to sell, what entertainment I want to offer AND if I allow smoking inside.
