I really thought that cops would start cracking down on those things after the fatal crash a month or two back. I guess I actually overestimated New Orleans on that matter, which is tough to do.

I think there actually needs to be an innocent casualty for them to give a shite.

Only reason New Orleans even has a good reputation is tourism, and you want less of the good tourists in the city? Giving New Orleans all of their hard earned money? No frick that, let's get rid of them and keep all the low life thugs who will turn the entire city into New Orleans East. God damn you're an idiot.

Exactly how long do you have to live in a place before you say a place is a shithole?

I don't know, but I think you're seeing the opposite here.

A couple of locals that have lived here all but 8 months think us being upset about the lawlessness of dangerous ATV riding in the highest pedestrian traffic area of the city, is nothing but statue backlash.

The funny thing is y'all think the cops don't care. They have to patrol with one arm behind them. If they were to chase a nice young man on a stolen bike and he would crash and die(likely as they have no skill other than wheelies) then the city would be in an uproar. If we have learned anything is that now people know throwing words around gets policies changed with police and that's horse crap: they would rather chase them till they crash or run out of gas, but the city wouldn't allow it and everyone knows it.

NOPD is an absolute disaster right now.

1) Mitch's decision early on to freeze hiring for two years and freeze recruiting for four years has led to a department that is not only way understaffed, but has too many people who have had exceptions made and really should not be on the force.

2) Mitch's decision to promote Harrison to superintendent might be the single worst decision he's ever made. After Serpas was proven to be WAY over his head, we hired one of his leadership? WTF? We should have gone way outside the department.

A lot of the officers are good people who don't have the time to give a crap about dirt bikes, because they are so overwhelmed. The insane level of paperwork and procedure that the consent decree is causing.

Why haven't we had a real reorganization? Let's get rid of a few districts so we can reduce the command structure, put more guys on the street.

And then you have the officers who are turds. My co-worker's wife was in a car accident last Friday uptown. Got rear-ended. She wanted a police report for the insurance because a couple of years ago, she traded info with a driver on an accident and left, and the other driver recanted his admission of causing the accident. The officer took 2 hours to respond on Friday, and spent the entire time complaining about having to do the report.

Edited to correct name of superintendent

The biggest problem we have is too many tourists. In pre-AirBnB days, the number of hotel rooms capped the number of visitors at any one time. Now, it's the-more-the-merrier.

That statement is so fundamentally ignorant I would seriously like more detail to laugh at. The crime isn't being committed by tourists so that can't be it.

Are you saying there are too many potential victims tempting the otherwise good culcha boys into beating robbing and raping them? Are you saying with less tourists there'd be less crime because the dindus would turn from criminal activity rather than attack locals?

Are you saying one of the few industries that NO thrives in should be curtailed so that...what would be the result?

I just can't process how someone could make such a stupid fricking argument like you have. Typical.

Yeah, that damn continuous revenue stream is the biggest issue NOLA faces. No doubt.

Years of this attitude is why that city is like it is.
I don't live there, I live in BR and only lived in NO a couple of times for work for a year or so at a time. I have a lot of family that lives down there so I still visit quite often.

The attitude that has the city messed up isn't because people say the crime is blown out of proportion. It's more to do with dirty politicians who don't give a frick because the crime isn't really effecting them. Instead of putting money into more/better policing and having better policing policies, they'd rather do things like the bitch did and make political statements and remove statues. Or just have their pockets lined by businesses and they look the other way to what really needs to happen for change.

My point was, that people here who have never been to the city or haven't been recently come on this site, read the stuff here and would swear that just driving down there would get you shot.

Sure, it has a lot of problems, but that's inner city America for you. Until they get a mayor in there who gives a damn, it'll continue. It's just sad to see it when it happens to unsuspecting tourists or people who have no involvement in the drug turf wars.
