The thought is if you are passing by peoples tables you are breathing your germs on them but if like 10 feet away and seated for dinner you probably won’t hock a loogie across the room.
I dint know how effective but the idea that you have higher protection levels when you are closer to people isn’t near as dumbfounding on the surface as some of you act.
