There are two people equally at fault here. Whoever handed the gun to Baldwin and told him it was safe and bold with himself. Anyone physically handling a firearm has the ultimate responsibility to make sure it is safe. He should’ve checked the gun himself to make sure it did not have live rounds.A firearm is literally an instrument of death. Only a fool points it at someone and fires without personally checking to make sure it does not have live rounds.

I would think since it was a western that the gun would be a revolver, hence not have a magazine.

I guess the semi automatic was invented in the 1890s according to DDG so they may have been used by cowboys but that would look super unauthentic.

No matter since he broke so many gun rules.

It’s not gun nuts. It could have been prevented with one action. Check to make sure the gun is unloaded. If using blanks, make sure they are not live rounds. Simple. Quick. And no one is dead.

So the story I'm starting to piece together through various media stories is the following

- There were three "prop" guns laid out on a table on the set by armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed.

- 1st Assistant Director Dave Halls picked up one of these guns and yelled "Cold gun on set!" before handing it to Alec Baldwin.

- The cast and crew broke for lunch a short time thereafter. From what I gather, the weapon was left on set while everyone went off to get a bite to eat.

- When the accident happened, the director, cinematographer, and actor were discussing the scene when he drew the weapon, asked: "Is this what you want?" before pulling the trigger.

- The gun fired, hit the DP in the chest, and hit the director in the shoulder.

I don't claim to know the protocols on a movie set when it comes to firearms. But I have to speculate on some things. I am big when it comes to gun safety. As said on here many times in this thread, I will always check my gun, or a gun handed to me. Always. But let's think about this movie set situation. What about a real shoot em up movie, where thousands and thousands of rounds will be fired? You think each actor is going to individually load each blank into their magazines for each scene? Obviously someone is charged with this job, but I doubt it's the actors. I could be wrong.

ETA: Why would any movie or tv set ever have live rounds in the first place? That's asking for trouble.

This is the kicker for me. WHY WHY WHY??????

Really sounds there was no real weapons person on set.

The accidental vs negligent discharge thing is one of those things that makes you gun culture nuts look really bad.

That’s because you other “nuts” have a lack of personal accountability.

i'm sure we will eventually find out for sure, but i've read the armorer was using that gun for target practice and it's speculated that's how real ammo got mixed in. that would not be good for the armorer.

I'm pretty sure it was her first gig as the armorer. So yeah. She was a total n00b with no experience in the film industry.

I love it when Lawyers come on here all hyper condescending and have no clue what they are talking about.

Both accidental and negligent have been discussed ad nauseum for two fricking days and you still think we have all answers?

Your knowledge of law never ever trumps firearm safety

Theres another word you need to learn. Negligence.

I hate what happened to that lady. No one deserves to die like that.

But this couldn’t have happened to a better Liberal than Baldwin. I hope the guilt of this tears his hypocritical, egotistical arse apart.

There were people arguing this is a bad thing, just yesterday.

Nothing trumps rules of safety. The fact that Hollywood has a fricked up system that hires rent-a-whores to be the "expert" doesn't excuse shitty handling.

he’s still a co-producer of the film. there were reports of members walking off the set because of safety concerns before this accident. why didn’t he do due diligence as a co-producer?

People who give a shite about safety, evidently.

Angry turds usually use "nut" due to a lack of command of the English language.
