Wish they still had the paddle wheelers. I don't think any of them are left for overnight cruises

You can tell it's not because people actually ride it.

There’s a backstory on that boat. There’s actually an article on nola.com about it today.

I can see the appeal of stopping at the cities and at the plantation homes.

Seems like it would take forever though.

Reminds me of those who don't like crawfish boils because it takes an hour or so to get full. The slow pace (of both) is appealing to many. Relax, have a cold beer, meet the people left/right of you. Eat!

(works for river cruises and crawfish boils)

American Queen is a steam driven paddlewheel. Really cool vessel. The steam engines are Nordbergs salvaged off an old corp of engineers dredge.

I'm old but many years ago I worked on the Miss Queen and the Delta Queen as a musician and I doubt it is much different today. Then we had Chefs from NO and the food was really good. If you go when the river is high it is a great experience if you have any interest in river history and lore. Yes, the passengers back then were old as I am sure they are today but they were great folks ready to party for their age and after the show, many would gather in the rear lounge and had a ball. Them it was like partying with my Grandparents and today I am one of them:) 99% of folks on there would poo-poo the experience but for the other 1% it is a great.I loved it then and would love it now had I not been there/done that.

Somebody should raise the funds to finally launch that big arse boat off Hwy 90 in Des Allemands. The guy who owned it got shot by his son... or something, like decades ago. But last time I was down there, it’s obviously still available.
