Two new Mississippi River cruise ships will start calling on Baton Rouge and New Orleans beginning in October.

The American Song, a 184-passenger vessel will begin sailing on Oct. 6, with a trip from New Orleans to Memphis, Tennessee. The ship will call on Baton Rouge, St. Francisville and Oak Alley.

American Cruise Lines said the American Song is the flagship in a new series of modern, American-made riverboats. The ship will feature amenities such as 900-square foot suites with private balconies.

American Cruise Lines has been calling on New Orleans and Baton Rouge for several years. The 185-passenger America, a paddlewheel boat, is making weekly stops through the end of June. The 150-passenger Queen of the Mississippi will return in October.

Anyone been on one of these? Is it a bunch of old people or is it actually fun?

See the shitty, crime filled cities!
See lots of muddy water!
See the magnificent barge traffic!

I can see the appeal of stopping at the cities and at the plantation homes.

Seems like it would take forever though.

My aunt and uncle did this recently. They are in their late 70s

They said it was all old people and Europeans.

They stay on the lower Mississippi River during the winter months and will go all the way up the River during the warmer months.

Actually I think it would be very relaxing. A cruise with a minimum to no kids, low key, and I’m sure your pampered like a king.

Should do a game day river cruise between Nola and BR.

Wish they still had the paddle wheelers. I don't think any of them are left for overnight cruises.

I guess one else can take off long enough to go from St Louis to New Orleans (while stopping at a dozen cities and attractions).

Takes about 9 days.

Or 23 days from NOLA to Minnesota

I was in Natchez a few weeks back and two of the river cruise ships were docked there. It looked like all older people to me. I think they’re kinda expensive

They’ve all gone through multi million dollar renovations and upgrades. They are very nice. There are going to be more coming out over the next few years.

The luxury cruise industry is booming
