Jeff Landry wanted the leg to impose sales tax on services like home remodeling and lawn work. The leg didn’t pass it, but there should have been riots at the suggestion of an extra 10 or 11% tax on a $50,000 kitchen remodel or a $5,000 painting project. Or having your yard boy have to collect an extra $5 to send to the state.

So we are still paying income tax, property tax, and now a higher sales tax. And the roads are still garbage while the culcha runs rampant.

it's a $1.1 billion dollar tax increase on civilians
Not for me. It's an extra $500 per $100,000 of taxable items. My state income tax will drop multiples of that.

Cutting income taxes and corporate taxes better for state. Consumption taxes are a better form of taxation and also take money from tourists. In spring legislative session this year they are likely to lower income taxes further and I believe it will be eliminated in next 5-7 years

Meanwhile fat cat businessmen are counting their tax savings in order to be more competitive on the backs of residents.

You sure about that, chief?

I bet you are a “national sales tax with no exemptions” supporter. Lmao.

You will lose your shite when you have to pay $15K sales tax on that new Tahoe or $90K sales tax on that new home purchase.

The sky screaming would be so glorious if it wasn’t so sad.

I thought the new combined tax was 10.5%. State and Parish so that looks correct.

Parishes have different taxes.

When it comes to st Tammany different cities and business areas have diff taxes. It’s higher in areas of Slidell than covington.

Slidell Fremaux will be at 10.13 while Slidell camellia square will be 10.63. Covington hwy 21 will be 10 and mandeville 9.75.

So it’s not a flat 10.5% across the state.

“I can always choose to spend less so I save on twxes”. Sure. You can also “choose to make less in order to save on taxes”. Both are dumb as frick arguments

The fact is net taxes were RAISED in Louisiana

When you cut income and business taxes The economy grows more people are hired so people will spend more money and then you will have more sales tax revenue even if sales taxes remained at the lower rate ( which they should have but a compromise was made with the legislature to get the whole package passed). Louisiana has a lot of tourists who will pay sales taxes which relieves some burden overall the plan is better for us but we need to work to further reduce and eliminate the income tax and half of sales taxes are locals so people in each parish can decide to lower those as well
