it's rather pointless if they don't make the bridge over the bay 3 lanes. Now we'll just have another point where idiots have to merge and traffic will be backed up b/c of it b/c people are fricking idiots and aren't capable of merging or allowing people to merge without everyone having to come to a stop.

I still don't get how the lanes will merge? The bridge will have 3 and the tunnel will have 2... and will merge into three where Ralph and Kacoos is located

To the east of the new Mobile River bridge, the design-build team will be replacing two existing two-lane I-10 bridges across the Mobile Bay with two three-lane bridges. Most of the existing Bayway is well below the 100-year wave crest elevation, placing it within the wave impact area. On average, the new Bayway will be up to 8 feet higher than the existing elevation.

The new bridges will run approximately 7.4 miles from the Mobile River Bridge’s high level approach spans to the US 90/98 Eastern Shore interchange in Daphne. Two interchanges along the Bayway will also be reconstructed, including one at midbay, where I-10 meets US 90/98.

Looks like they are replacing the current bay bridge with a 3 lane one, which is smart.
There's still goign to be a point where 3 lane new bridge and 2 lane tunnel merge into 3 lanes, so traffic will come to a standstill right there, and then they'll be more dumbassery when those 3 lanes go down to 2 lanes in Daphne.

Im just here to note that the Francis Scott Key bridge in Baltimore is currently sea level and not 185ft.

I'll eat my shoe if there are cars driving on it January 1, 2032 or before.

Even adding a 3rd lane from Spanish Fort through to Florida wouldn't fix that area. Eventually they're going to have to bite the bullet and expand 98 to allow some of that flow to/from Pensacola to have another viable route.

The long term plan is to 6 Lane the bridge across the bay. I think they want this bridge to take the traffic away from the tunnel and the tunnel be for local traffic. That is what I saw on a couple of YouTube videos about it. It is all about money though. They want to make it a toll road. Locals are fighting pretty hard about it.

You cant spend billions and billions of dollars just to make traffic better for peak beach trip traffic times which are just a few hours a day mostly on weekends

For non summer non tourist time the new bridge with current infrastructure is fine

I think public works projects in Bama move a little differently than they do in Louisiana.
