Absolutely absurd that interstates are being tolled considering how its just another tax when you're already taxed in every single state on gasoline and diesel to fund highway infrastructure, but just like up Geauxpass with EZpass and be done with it.
The state has tried for years to raise the money for the bridge and still fell short, but this week we suddenly found millions to fund SNAP statewide when the Fed Gov stopped funding it. Absurd.

They pulled from the Revenue Stabilization Fund.

No one wants to pay for the gas tax to cover road infrastructure projects. Would have to be almost 3x the amount we are paying today.

I dont want to turn this into a SNAP thread but FYI 28% of people on SNAP in LA, about 200K total, are not elderly, disabled, or live in a household where at least one person earns income. They do nothing at all and get SNAP.
Why are we funding those people?

Because those people vote.
Votes can be bought. SNAP benefits are one way to buy them.

They'd pass on the gas tax as well though. Either way it equals out when doing the math that way.
Increasing everyone's gas by $1-2/gallon tomorrow would have people flipping their shite.

The height of the bridge will be reduced from 152 feet to around 75-95 feet
Thats great - should cause a lot less people freaking the frick out going up and over the top. looks like at least from the west bound video you go up in segments which should also help.

I'm all for infrastructure projects such as this, Louisiana is far behind with keeping up with neighboring states and their continued progress. I-10, I-20, and I-12 should be a priority from Texas to Mississippi. Unfortunately, we're politically doomed by abysmal leadership.
Tolls should be for commercial and out of state drivers, not LA residents. We pay enough taxes with little to show for it.

sure hope Flash is still alive in 2030 to make a repeat performance ...
video was filmed in 1971 with a hand-held 8mm camera, Flash was 17 yrs old at the time.

and know you know the rest of the story
FYI - Greg's brother John Demarie played FB @ LSU (OL and DL) from 1963-1967 and spend 9 yrs in the NFL. Older Tiger fans may remember John as he prepped at LaGrange

I'm already paying it and nothing is getting done. I've been paying it since I was 15YO and started driving. And our infrastructure is still hot garbage. Its not the tax. Its the waste and misuse of the tax dollars that has me opposed to any new or additional taxes. LADOTD is one of the most bloated, inefficient bureaucracies in state government. And we haven't even addressed the politicians who view any revenue stream as their own personal coffer to play with. I have no problem with letting the status quo continue. Its in my own best financial interest.

Over a swamp
If you watch the video it's a pretty big bridge but also a large interchange and there is way more to it. They have to demo a bunch of buildings and work around the existing bridge not to stop traffic. The logistics of keeping things flowing probably adds a lot of time. Then there's the whole swamp and river issue.
They also have to work with the refineries to work around/move all of that piping that currently runs all around the bridge.
Of course, no telling how much time EPA bullshite adds to it
agree with all of this. The pipelines are going to take time.

not really, only when a dumbass truck driver tries to go under and gets stuck

Any specifics here? Like what specific thing would you remove.

The state didn't have enough money to cover the bridge so they started a Public Private Partnership "P3"... The tolls are to repay the private individuals who invested to help "bridge" the funding gap. The state money was almost clawed back by Trump, but the check had already cleared.
it is still unclear what happens to the tolls once the Private investors are repaid.

Man LC traffic is going to suck for the foreseeable future. Between this bridge and the new LNG stuff. Almost makes me want to move.

The gas tax hasn’t increased in Louisiana since the 80s
