I'll never understand how someone born in 84 is considered a millennial. People my age share almost nothing in common with the stereotypical millennial.

ETA: But like most in the thread are saying, these arbitrary titles are pretty useless.

Eta: 85 and all this applies

Why the hell do 84 and 85 get fricked on this?

Better question... Why do i care?

Since when has generational classification ever been about race?

I think it needs to be expanded out to about '85-'86. Most in that age range grew up with dial up and didn't have cell phones until HS at least. I was born in '84 and got a phone after my senior year in high school. Facebook came out when I was in college.

I was born in 86, and I feel the same way. I don't relate to Millenials at fricking all.

Early 80s for me and I don't get it either. Watched the twin towers come down my freshman year at Auburn, got my first cellphone at 18, Facebook was invented while I was an undergrad. How I'm lumped in with the kids born in 2000 is beyond me. It seems the kids that grew up on a cellphone are more of a defining demographic.

Yeah, I don't really think that it should be possible for a parent and child to be from the same 'generation'.

Yeah but I've seen ranges saying millenials end date is a birth year late 90s/early 2000s.

The big influences on my generation's behavior are the proliferation of smart phones, social media, 9/11, the Iraq war, and the Great Recession.

Being born from the early to mid 1980's puts you into the workforce just as the Great Recession hit. You would be old enough to understand what was going on on 9/11. You may have fought in the Middle East. Facebook wasn't prolific until 2004/2005. Smart Phones not until 2007 after this generation was well into their 20s.

Being born between 1989-1992 sort of has you missing the worst of the recession if you went to college. You wouldn't really be old enough to understand 9/11 while it was happening. Mobile phones were around as long as you can remember, and your first smart phone was probably your first year of undergrad. MySpace and Facebook were happening when you were in middle and high school. The second generation of social media came around before you left university.

Exactly. Born in the mid-80's I was in High School on 9/11 and watched the attacks live on TV, I didn't have my own cell phone until I was going to college and still had limitations on texts and data usage, Facebook came out my Freshman year but was extremely limited in its communication methods, the iPhone was released as I was entering the workforce, and myself and my graduating cohort had some challenges obtaining employment into a massive recession.

What we have here folks is an attempt by these early 80s kids to piggyback on just late 70s kids.

Sorry but yall are still 80s kids and still millenials. Stop trying to drag us GenXers down with you.

85 is not a millennial.

it's called cultural marxism and it's been a fantastic tool for those that want to use it.

i'm not saying everything was great in the 80's and 90s. it wasn't perfect by any means, but in the last 10 years we've moved to:

men vs. women
white vs. black
gay vs. straight
cis vs WTF ever you want to call it
wall street vs. main street
1% vs 99%
muslims vs. the world
christians vs. the world
left vs. right
blacks vs. cops
gen x vs baby boomers
millennials vs. baby boomers

somebody somewhere realized, if we can make one person identify with a certain class, make them feel slighted by a boogeyman, and agitate, there be money to be made.

not to say there aren't assholes out there. there are racists, good old boy clubs, a-hole CEOs, chauvinist, etc. there are, but they aren't running everything and everybody not in your group doesn't personify that boogeyman.
