I have kiln dried treated porches and I have to paint the shite every year and the ends are already rotting after 7 years. Today’s wood is shite. Do composite. I’ll be switching soon.
ETA built and old style Acadian with wrap around porch. House is in a slab and cut the dirt with the porches off the ground to make the house look off the ground. Went with the wood cause so many old houses still had original porches and paint and it was half the cost. I’ve made that up repainting every year.

I totally agree about the quality of wood available today for porches and such. About 3 years ago I got a great deal on 5/4 x 4 pressure treated tongue and grove porch decking that was kiln dried. I stored it under a protected area for over 6 months before priming it on all sides. I then installed it and painted it with 2 coats of top grade deck paint.
When I nailed it down on the tongues I made sure to have each board tight against the one next to it. Not more than a few months I had cracks between the boards that were at least 1/8 inch+ wide. When it rains or humidity is high, the porch tightens up and no gaps are showing, when it is hot and dry, they open up.
Wood today is crap and harvested too soon with no real tight graining to make it stable.

Composite is great but if you could budget for a true hardwood I’d go that way. You’ll need special fasteners and a ton of drill bits as every hole needs to be predrilled but the results can be fantastic.

consider stained cedar. it doesn't rot and helps repel insects. you can stain and seal it and it looks great.

This. If it says “composite” run.
If you go treated make sure it’s ground contact treated. Should say it on the end tag.

This or Timbertech. I broke down and replaced a pressure treated wood deck. Best thing I’ve ever done.

You can order treated wood with more rot protection than what you get from the wood from Lowe’s or Home Depot.
This is Ipe wood on a porch, it will last 50+ years

Did mine with tigerwood a few years ago. I posted pictures on the OB when I finished it. I'll see if I can find them.

That is another great choice

Now that is one fine looking porch deck. Clean, tight and classy looking.

Beautiful porch but what about when you’re going for a painted finish like the older battleship blue/gray that old houses had?

If youre painting, you don't use any of the exotic hardwoods. To expensive and nice to paint over. I use ipe oil on mine once a year after I clean it. My deck has a good amount of trees over it so it get dirty quick.

Neither. PVC decking.
Used Ipe parquet squares over roll roofing product for upstairs balcony deck. Great product. I did use Pvc for surround.
I have noticed that the Pvc really expands and contracts with heat and cold. Had to caulk the hell out of it twice with elastic type caulk to keep gaps from allowing moisture in. Probably 1/4 inch gap from morning to full afternoon sun exposure. Pvc was put up in afternoon when boards were fully expanded. By the time morning rolled around they had shrunk quite a bit. Didn't notice this for a couple of weeks initially, until the painters were done and gone.

Make sure to trim the bush around your deck. It makes the deck appear larger.
