I imagine it's been transferred in cardboard boxes numerous times as well as taken out of its container and held with ungloved hands.

I would hope not but if it has then your contamination post would certainly have some merit.

I do think the fact that the airliner industry was one of the more prevalent sources of those elements back then, and obviously this case involves an airliner and a suspect who appeared to have a working knowledge of it, is of great interest. Would be pretty coincidental if those elements happened to find their way onto the tie after the fact. Plus, the titanium was mentioned as the "most notable" element on the tie.

“A tie is one of the only articles of clothing that isn’t washed on a regular basis,” reads a section on the Citizen Sleuths website devoted solely to the tie. “It picks up dirt and grime just like any other piece of clothing, but that accumulation never truly gets ‘reset’ in the washing machine

Titanium is used a lot in the aerospace industry so perhaps there's a chance that the titanium came from contamination from the investigation of the actual plane used in the heist.

Is this the guy from the history channel doc that they were sort of hinting at? They went to try to talk to him on camera and he refused?

No I believe Robert Rackstraw was the guy they zeroed in on. Fit the description of Cooper and very knowledgable of aircrafts

Can't say I listen to that show. I did see that it was addressed on there too though.

If Rackstraw ever wrote an autobiography, I'd buy it. He's had a hell of an interesting life.

Fascinating story. Given the conditions it is difficult to believe he survived the jump. However no remains were ever found.

Does anyone think the guy made it, lost the money and simply went back to work and on with his life following the thanksgiving weekend?

There's a lot of hoopla surrounding a guy that almost pulled off the best caper ever but then drowned.

I believe his drop point is still speculated.. the doors opened over southern Washington but was not determined he jumped..

Josh Gates did a pretty good investigation on this in "Expedition Unknown." Because of that show is actually the reason this tie was investigated in the first place. Anyway, they concluded that he didn't jump until the plane was near decent in Reno, NV.

I would think he would have been eliminated through DNA or fingerprints. Surely they have one right?

The fact there was no body or Parachute found makes me think he survived. And the money that was found was planted to throw off the real drop zone.
