New cars and rebates

Looking at getting a new truck since it's the end of the year and figured the 15s left would be cheap. Checked 4 different dealerships and all the prices were around the same. However back in Oct Nov they were around 5 grand cheaper supposedly due to rebates. Can they be worked down to those rebate prices from in Oct even though they aren't running those rebates anymore?

What are you looking at buying?
Fords are offering the most off of sticker right now that I've seen.

Can you talk them down? Maybe maybe not, but the rebates are direct from the mfr and the dealer has no control over them, so you really can't use that in your negotaions . Always check the mfr website for rebates, don't rely on the dealer to inform you. Go in knowing what the mfr is offering or the dealer will make it look like the rebate is something they are giving you, in other words the sticker price minus rebate should be the start of negotaions

Scooping rebates is prohibited and the manufacturer will penalize the dealership if the rebates aren't given to the customer.

Not saying they won't give them to the customer, they will just imply that the rebate is something they are giving
ETA, an example , sticker price 40K, mfr rebate 5K, customer asks the salesperson for his best price and sales person comes back with 34,500 and tries to convince you they already gave 5500 when in reality the dealer has only come off 500

Can't scoop rebates but they can keep any dealer cash. Gotta try to get that too if it's available

are you asking if car prices are negotiable at a car lot?
Seriously, is that what you're asking?

For a reason, their sticker price inflation has been the highest over the past decade.
OP: What make & model are you looking to buy?

You know, I know I live in a simple world, but I imagine at a car dealership that you can name your price and they can either say yes, no, or give a counteroffer.
Crazy stuff, I know.

OP is looking at Chevrolet brand, I bet. They had the best incentives & rebates in November on 2015 LT models, and have not brought that incentive back yet. I would have suggested by then, as rebate is determined by manufacturer, not dealer. Dealer discount then is as strong as now, we are sold out of LTs at both my lots, just LS & LTZ models left

Looking at Sierras, got the answer I was pretty much looking for. They were about 5k cheaper due to rebates and I won't be able to get them back that low.

No. Invoice - rebates is the start of negotiations. If you negotiate from sticker, you have already lost.

Invoice, LOL, such a useless metric, those that believe it means anything are the ones that loose

Dealer cost is more useless than sticker?

I was told that the "invoice" is actually on file at the dealership for insurance purposes and in no way represents the actual amount paid by the dealer. In case of hail, theft etc the invoice amount is the value of the asset involved in the claim.
There really is no way they are going to reveal the profit margin. The best strategy is to get approved elsewhere then go in and spend a few hours rejecting offers. It may take a few days before you see if they will ever get right. Put out rfp via Internet to other dealers and let them know you are buying. Unless your local dealer is an idiot he will get it done. You will pay if you buy the first day.

See, that is the problem, people think that the invoice is dealer cost, and it is not. You, me and 99.999% of the population will never know what a dealer pays for a vehicle, the "invoice" is just a number they play games with, that is why it is a useless metric, no better than any random number pulled out of the sky.
My dad used to say " any number a dealer gives you, is bullshite"
