1. If you get pulled over and have a Louisiana license, you'll get a ticket for not timely registering your vehicle in Louisiana.

2. The out-of-state tag will make it far more likely that you wlll get profiled if stopped.

Same as expired in some parishes. I don't think the state law verbage calls out missing specifically. I have heard that missing was cheaper than expired.

State law says you have to register your vehicle in LA within so many days of moving here.

So there is that.

If you don’t break the law, you don’t get pulled over. You can exceed the speed limit, but just make sure you’re not the fastest one on any stretch of highway or road.

I kept 2 vehicles out of state without changing registration to that state for 3 years, despite their laws being identical to Louisiana’s. Even lived in a high visibility area. Cops had better things to do than question the validity of my cars’ registration.

Those lowly small town cops have nothing else to do. Can you imagine such a miserable existence?

I haven’t purchased a brake tag in 20 years and I live in New Orleans.

No need to register in another state.

Even when you get pulled over, the cops don’t care- New Orleans, Metairie, the Causeway. I’ve been pulled over at least 4-5 times in the last 20 years in all 3 and only once they asked and I said it fell off.

Just don’t get one. Unless you live in some rural part of La. where they care.

Why not just get your ragged arse vehicle up to standards and get it inspected? No insurance either, huh? You're the person we all hate. Total piece of shite.

Who said his vehicle isn't up to standards for inspection?
He simply said you wouldn't need to pay the government annually for a tax disguised as an inspection.

Who said anything about no insurance? He said if you were in MEXICO, you did not need insurance from the UNITED STATES. Reading comprehension is your friend.

It's annual in some parishes, shuch as EBR. But you keep paying your tax to the government.

There's a black dude that sells them at Racetrac sometimes in BR. He's marked up a little ($25) but they are real

Last month I got hit with a brake tag... license plate tag... and driver's license. I went to non-dmv so I had to pay the up-charge and my license was expired so I had to pay a penalty.. All together it was $175... Partly my fault but damn fees just to drive a car...

Brake tag 2 years
License tag 2 years
Driver's license 6 years..

Here’s a great workaround the Louisiana inspection requirements. Go online and register your vehicle with South Dakota. South Dakota does not require inspections and they are an open state registration, meaning they do not require you to live there to register your vehicle. The registration process can be done 100% online.

Why would I do all of this to save less than $10 per year?

Not complying with what? Your car is legally registered in South Dakota.

Do have a Louisiana driver's license and an address in Louisiana? If you do then you are out of compliance and I believe the ticket for that is substantially more than an expired inspection sticker/brake tag.

You sound like what is commonly termed a scofflaw.

And even when the do pull you over, they dont' say anythign about it anyway.

Unless you're a college kid driving to class at LSU, cops don't seem to give a single shite about inspection stickers anymore, and that's assuming there are actual cops out on the road in BR, which there aren't.

I've had my truck for 5 years without an inspection sticker. I"m not saying an expired one, there's simply no sticker at all, and it's been that way since i bought it. and before that the company car i drove had an expired tag on it, so i haven't had a legal inspection sticker in last 9 years, might have been pulled over 2 or 3 times and it's never been an issue that i didn't have one or that it was expired.

Never got one after we moved back to Louisiana 6-7 years ago. Been pulled over 3 times. Once by a trooper. No mention of the tag.

I don't believe this. There's no way, especially a state trooper. Did you dream this?

How bad is your car that you can't pass inspection? It is 15 minutes at Bennys.

It's funny that people will spend 18 or more on a drink at one of the local establishments but balk at paying the same thing for the inspection sticker.

That’s all LSP are good for and probably unemployable elsewhere. They watch Texas paper plates and trash vehicles zoom on by. As well as 18-wheeler driving road blocks, etc.
