I’m mid forties, have always registered to vote, and I’ve never been called for jury duty. Im just curious if this is common? I have friends that have done it several times.

I’m a man, I’m forty as well. Got called the first time in my life a month ago. Showed up one day to fill out some paperwork and sit around for 3 hours. Had to check back in a couple times by calling in. Never had to actually go back. Got a check a week later for $30.

Since moving to Houston in 2014 I have gone twice, one of which was yesterday. I think in my previous voting years from 98-2014 I was only called once in Louisiana and it was cancelled.

Me neither and I'm 36. I judge people all day every day so to do it as a civic duty would be great.

I've done it twice in my life. Once got on a grand jury for a month, another time, never got called at all.

Got called 3 times in a year 2 years ago.

2 for state court, one for federal court. It sucked, but thankfully all the cases were either dismissed, or the jury pool sucked so bad the judge dismissed us all

Pretty much everyone had a dad or brother in LE and the charge against the guy: Running over a police officer after being on parole for running over a police officer.

Good luck with that one.

Got called twice.

First time was in JP and I fainted in the juror box during opening statements so I got dismissed.

2nd time was for today, but rescheduled it until next month.

ETA: My friends made fun of me for responding to summons. Are there not repercussions for ignoring/skipping?

Where I live now I don’t expect it will happen. It’s $500 round trip just to fly into town. I doubt they are calling any of us out here. (Only been here two years so I’m mainly curious why I was never called before).

I got called 5 years ago by Baton Rouge. A year after I moved to Ascension parish. About 5 years earlier I was called by ascension, years after I’d moved to East Baton Rouge. So I got out both times due to not being a resident at the time.

I would say not uncommon, I’m 37 been given notice once, has to call a number to see if I was needed, I wasn’t… too bad was looking forward to the experience and time off work, this was 10 years ago.

I've gotten the letters sent to me about four times. Three of them got cancelled when I called the night before. The last I got selected to be an alternate on the grand jury but I never had to go in.

I served on a federal jury in a case against county cops for civil rights violations, and answered yes to having family in law enforcement. I dislike cops, but they were absolutely not guilty based on the evidence presented to us. The union hired attorney for the 2 officers was surprisingly impressive.
