Now, numbers just released from the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction paint an even more vivid picture of life under decriminalization: drug overdose deaths in Portugal are the second-lowest in the European Union.

Hmmm. Time to decriminalize all drugs

TJ,you really cant be this stupid, right?

Portugal has only 10 million people in it. The Los Angeles metro area has more people than that by itself.

How do you think health costs are going to go in a world where everyone is free to shoot up as much and as many times as they want?

How many ambulance calls do you think there would be?

You cant just lay something like that on a population of 320 million people of many different lifestyles, cultures, education, and incomes.

There are certainly some drugs that could be legalized but there some extremely nasty drugs (fentanyl) that have absolutely no business ever being legalized.

Unless college has changed drastically in the last 10 years, I doubt it. In my experience, it was never a place for opioids or heroin. Booze? Weed? Ecstasy? Adderall? Acid? Yes, to all of the above.

Rx pills and heroin seems to be more of a personal hookup from a friend or coworker than something passed around at a party.

Legalize pot and quit making people go underground to get it
Legalizing pot has nothing to do with fentanyl related heroin overdoes fwiw. With that said, pot does need to be legalized.

Why can't people just drink, smoke some weed and do a couple bumps every now and then? No fricking will power. Just drink some water and calm down squids.

Who said anything about alcohol? I never said he should drink alcohol at all.
Hopefully you think certain foods should be banned from kids with your logic? Excess sugar is far worse for a person than daily weed use. Diabetes is no joke, and yet parents are fattening up their kids with a shite ton of sugar. Also you think kids under 25 should be playing football, or other impact sports where concussions are the norm? Surely you must be against tackle football for middle/high school and even college.

Plus you have yet to post any actual studies on cannabis negatively affecting the 18-25 year old brain. It is obvious kids shouldn't smoke, so it would be asinine to even show any studies of such. Cannabis has been shown time and time again to be neuroprotective and here is a link that shows it is more potent than vit c and vit e.

It usually starts with prescribed pain pills for legitimate reasons. They then get cut off and start buying pills on the street, but it’s expensive. Heroin is so cheap that they turn to it and go down that dark rabbit hole.
Nothing to do with a lack of character or being weak minded. It’s a heartbreaking experience to witness these.

Prayers for the family.

There's something going around the City I live in.It's Pot laced with some chemical that seems to have the same effects as Bath Salts or PCP.

Body temp skyrockets.

If I smoke it comes from a friend of 30 years who gets it out of CA.So,I'm not worried for myself.People that buy pot from strangers or in sketchy neighborhoods are at risk.

Pretty much.

give them a legal way to do so and many will choose that.

If you want to get high, the legality of the drug doesn't stop you. Illegal drugs have been a pretty profitable business over the years. I have never heard one person in my life say "I'm not getting high until they legalize the drug I want to get high on".

Oh that rabbit hole sucks believe me. I lived the life for quite a few years and it's a nightmare. I don't blame anyone but myself but quitting is not as easy as "just wanting to stop" like some think.

A lot of these ODs are from mixing opioids and benzodiazepines. Dangerous, dangerous combination. Hope the young man pulls though.
