- Having to stop every 200 miles or so to recharge if you’re taking a road trip

- Not being able to recharge if a hurricane knocks out the power to the city for a few days. Or having to wait in long arse lines at charging stations every 200 miles if you chose to evacuate ahead of time

- Already limited range becomes far more limited if you’re towing a boat or RV

If you’re just using it as a commuter vehicle, not towing anything, and/or have another vehicle in the household that runs on gas…then that takes care of most of the knocks against EV’s. Besides the battery costing a fortune to replace when that time comes

I agree with 1 and 3. Hurricane wise, you have the same problems with fuel. I would have been better off after Ida had I had an EV

You can refuel with portable gas cans. And you can have some 5 gallon cans filled up and sitting in your garage before the storm hits. Can’t really do that with an EV.

If you have a natural gas whole home generator, then I can see a benefit of EV over an ICE vehicle in a hurricane aftermath

I’m not crazy about Tesla’s but let’s not act like a motorized vehicle engine will never fail

No idea re: longevity. From the 1K or so miles I drove one (Model Y, rental), that thing was awesome! It has practical limitations in regard to being electric, and things like body panel repair will be considerably more difficult/expensive. That said, I would buy one right now as a second/sports car. The cars feel solid overall, and there are way fewer parts to fail vs ICE.

Several friends have owned them for a year or more at this point, and they are still in love. Charging is an issue for road trips, but otherwise one of my buddies commutes around SELA only using a nightly charge at his home.

I did. I live by myself so it became an issue of do I wait in line for fuel or do I take care of other things. In an evacuation I feel I may be better off as I could charge up even with a 110 outlet. Not efficient at all with that outlet but I know that it may be more difficult than I believe

I’m in love with cars with a lot of tech. So I seriously considered buying one but have backed off because of other economic factors in my industry.

My bad, that's the warranty if it was replaced.

Just don't own a Tesla out of warranty. Someone that drives 20K mi/yr, thats 5yrs. Sell it before the warranty is out!

So basically you have to charge these things at public charging stations? This seems stupid as frick.

No?

Most won’t charge with the standard 110.

They’ll do it with the level 2 setup, which allows for 8 hour charge.

You’d have to beef up your electrical main though.

Any pain noticed with electric bills post Tesla?

It's added about $40 to my monthly bill, and I charge every night. I've saved about $2500 for the year versus what I spent in gas before

To me, the negative would be all the data they are collecting from me for free.

inb4 hurr durr your phone collects data too. I'm aware, and if I could have a flip phone, I would. I try and limit tracking to the extent possible.

I never considered that angle. That's kind of terrifying.

I've ran out to the store or quick stops here and there in our Grand Cherokee on days when my wife takes the EV, and probably 3 or 4 times I get back to the truck only to realize I never turned it off and just left it running the entire time.

Luckily it's always quick stops somewhere so not a terribly big deal but certainly not ideal.
