re: Negatives of owning a Tesla?

It just seems to me that the mainstream car companies are now starting to roll down the hill with electric vehicles, with many more models on the market within a few years. Traditional luxury brands have even gone electric. If I buy electric it's not going to be a Tesla, especially that you now have luxury brand choices. Also, I want to have a service center at a dealership.

Seriously, IMO just a technology that's not quite ready for primetime, costs not withstanding.
What about the Model 3 isn't ready for primetime? Seeing as how many of them are on the road and how their owners really like them, you sound pretty ignorant.

I’m sorry I offended your electric vehicle. The industry thanks you for your relentless and unpaid promotion.

But tell me more about all the posters who said there are no negatives to owning a Tesla. Tell us all about it

For those, there a several of you, that cannot do basic reading comprehension; Tesla claims a lot. Tesla truck was supposed to be out a couple years ago. Nada. Tesla Semi was supposed to be out several years ago. A few are running for Pepsi now in 2023. Not several years ago. Tesla claims 1 million mile batteries. Not holding my breath.
While criticizing others for what you think is reading comprehension, you’re overlooking your own blind spots when it comes to the benefit of setting unrealistic goals and pursuing them anyway.
What Elon Musk has done and continues to do is a valuable management strategy.
Think about what you would have said 10 years ago if someone had told you that this Tesla fricker would design a rocket that would land in the upright position on a moving barge in the ocean.
Do we fault him for not doing sooner what no else was even trying? There are rocket scientists claiming it could never be achieved.
Do we fault him for pursuing it on an ambitious but unrealistic timeline?
Or do we recognize the uniqueness of the achievement regardless of how precise the projected date of implementation was?
I guess what I’m saying is go eat a dick you stupid cocksucker.

I don’t own one but the negative for me (and the reason I probably won’t get a Tesla in the next few years) is that there is no dealership where I live. I’ll be damned if I have to have the thing towed to New Orleans should something happen. That’s a dealbreaker for me. There are lots of other EVs coming out and have dealerships here. Now, whether they service the EV or not is something I would have to look into.

Batteries will need replacement at some point. Price that into the cost of ownership. Everything is a math problem.

They will indeed. When exactly is what a lot of people are misinformed about.

Correct. Unfortunately, I haven't seen anyone propose the correct equation yet.

Didn't read all the pages of responses.
My inlaws have one, their only issue is long trips, they have to plan out their routes for recharging with the superchargers which is about an hour long process, but they are usually places with restaurants etc so it's just a lunch break for them.
It's a really cool car. It's different though, not like driving a regular car. I can't get over the regenerative breaking when trying to coast. That fricks with my medulla oblongata.

It's hard to get used to, and I'm not there because I rarely drive my wives car and when I do it's usually in self drive most of the time.
But what might be more terrifying, is how it deprograms them. Just 20 minutes ago, I had my wife driving my GX back home so I could get on a call. She was about to coast right into someone then had to slam on the brakes. She's just not used to having to hit a brake pedal anymore.
As weird as it is, I wouldn't want to be invested in a big brake pad company right now.

It was a joke. Your rage over finding offense in my comment is fricking hilarious though
Surely someone as passionate as you are about electric vehicles has owned several and you’re not just forming an opinion based on second hand knowledge, right?
Right?

Just checked tirerack and a Pilot 4S is $300. And there are much cheaper ones available.
Depends on the model he has. The OE tires on a plaid are $500+ pilot sport 4Ss that are a specific tesla spec

Feel free to find any post I made that is false or prove wrong or just have facts to show it doesn't make sense.
But you won't you'll just shuffle on to the next thing to complain about.

Thats true and they're a pain in the arse to get. But I if anyone spends that much on a car to enjoy their sub 2 sec 0-60 then complains about $500 tires, they're just looking for something to whine about. I spend more than that for my SC2s.

Super long winded way to say I don’t own an electric vehicle and never have. Everything I know about them was told to me

I like the simplicity of my Tesla vs my BMW.

Damn.
Tesla is a divisive topic. I dropped this little question during lunch. Went back to work and checked in some, now it’s 130 plus replies.
