I don't WANT to commute. I'm saying I don't mind if I must.

Be sure that you are strapped everywhere you go. Invest in a Kevlar vest.

What reasons would necessitate a commute in your mind? It’s not like OLOL is in a crime-infested neighborhood.

You don’t want to have to deal with Essen Lane and Bluebonnet Blvd anymore than you have to. Traffic sucks

I'll have about $2500/month to spend on housing. Also I'm only gonna be there 26 weeks.

For 6 months, I would just go get a condo or townhouse off perkins by Pennington biomedical center.

What's your mortgage/rent level? Kennilworth might be a solid option for you if you are making good enough money.

If you go farther out you should look to the east along 12 (like Fairview Estates, for example) or south along 10 (Prairieville) as you'll be going contrary to traffic at those hours. The problem is though, if your hours flip you'll be in a tough situation the farther out you go.

***EDIT*** This was posted while I was writing my post and it changes a lot of things.

In that case, there are apartments just west of the hospital on Perkins. The District. I think a 2BR runs something like $1,600-$1,800/mo.

yup, I lived off of Staring and one of my roommates worked at the lady in the lake. It was 2 or 3 miles but if he hit the time wrong it might take him 30 or 40 minutes to get ot work

My contracts are 13 weeks long. I apologize for offending your delicate sense of time grouping.

Essen traffic is nothing like it used to be after they widened it.

KingBob has given you solid info. Unless I overlooked what’s your budget? Rent? Purchasing?

It can still be bad in the evenings between I-10 and Jefferson (mostly due to construction on Jefferson which has reduced it from 5 to 2 lanes), but the stretch between I-10 and Perkins is like night and day better from what it used to be.

I drive that stretch pretty regularly between I-10 and Perkins. It wasn't uncommon for it to take 15-20 minutes to travel that before they widened it. It's rarely more than a few minutes now.

Bluebonnet is worse than Essen now.
