Shindaiwa is Echo, both are owned by Yamabiko.

Maruyama is the best commercial warranty available, that's why I like them.

I've done tons of research:
Trimmers, get a Maruyama
Blowers, get a Red Max

Stihl is great, just not usually the best bang for your buck.

I don't have a big yard and I've been burned on buying the cheap weed eaters but yesterday I bought a Stihl FS 40 C-E. Tried it out yesterday evening and I was impressed with it.

How much is this canned fuel?

It's like $7 a quart at Stine. I only go through a couple a year so not a big deal. I did my own prefixing for a while, but the gas would always go bad before I used it all.

Got a Stihl fs90r a few years ago and have been very happy with it. You can buy other attachments (edger, chain saw, etc) for it and it's always cranked on the second try. It's a lot stronger than the echo that I had previously.

Sthil, I've used them commercially and privately. Best trimmer made hands down.
I think for commercial applications, Sthil is the top dog and for personal use at home, Echo is good enough.

I got an Echo and has been working for almost 10 years with some years cutting other yards. I only use Echo oil and premix it myself, with regular gas from the store. No problems yet, although it is now taking my 3rd pull to get started.

Stihl--end of story.

My wife bought a battery Ergo or whatever the hell it's called. I broke the pull cord on the Stihl this morning and used the battery one. It's a gutless POS. No torque. It's weighted weird too. It took me twice as long to trim the yard with the battery trimmer than with my Stihl. Whereas the Stihl cuts stuff on one pass as I walk along the Ergo thing makes you go repeat over top of the grass. It lays much of the grass down on the first pass making you have to go back over it again. Maybe they'll be good some day but for me that's not today.

Sure, but is it the same Echo that HD sells? I was under the impression that there are differences.

Mine certainly starts and runs more reliably than the Home Depot Echo I had.

Bought my Stihl FS 90 R a couple of years ago from a local dealer. I bought the extended warrantee of 5yrs, and every year I take it back to the dealer for a free inspection and pre-season servicing. Only put the trufuel in it since day one.

Only thing it had a problem with was when I got to close to a banana tree... it never died though...

I had a Troybuilt 4 cycle with no clutch. Hideous.
Stihl was far superior.
The concept of a 4 cycle appealed to me so as to not have to have two cans of gas.

Spend the extra cash and go with an Echo or Stihl.
