Still has a made in USA model that retails around $275 and comes with a 6-pack of oil. I'm on my 3rd year with mine and have only just now finished 1 bottle of oil.

Starts every time and runs strong.

I just replaced my echo with an Ego battery model. It only takes me 10 minutes to weed eat, so I don't need extended run time. Battery is so much less trouble.

+1 for Stihl. Never used Echo but heard good things.

ETA: Bought a Troy Built and its been a bitch to start from day one. I gave it away and it was like new.

I had a few Crafstmen that were garbage but attached to other tools I used in the yard. Finally I got a Stihl that my friend recommended. A commercial quality one at that. The first year was great but the string pops out all the time, it's impossible to crank if you don't use it often, and it's loud as hell.

For Christmas I got a 40v Ryobi blower that was better than any gas blowers I had. I got the edger next which did all I needed it to do without gas. Then I tried the weedeater. I had the batteries so I figured with a 90 day guarantee what could it hurt. It fell in love. I did my whole yard in record time because the string mechanism works and feeds as needed perfectly. It was lighter, quieter, and I didn't have to crank it 5 times. I could hold it upside down all day and it wouldn't shut off. I didn't think it would replace the Stihl but it has. I don't have a huge yard but I've got a fenced back yard that requires it. The battery lasts a solid 30-40 min and has a light indicator to help. It has been great for me.

Man, I just purchased the Kobalt 80 volt, 16", straight shaft, cordless battery operated trimmer from Lowes. This thing is a beast. I have a house on 1 acre and I trimmed all around the house and all of my driveway and still have 1/3 of the charge left in the battery. The trimming around the house was impressive since my gas trimmer has been on the fritz since last fall and the grass around the house in some places had gotten 6 - 8 inches tall. It comes with 1 battery and charger and recharges the battery in 30 minutes. Unless you have acreage to trim, you should check out the on- line reviews. It also accepts most of the generic attachments like blower, pole saw, curved shaft trimmer head, brush cutter and hedge trimmer.

Stihl. You'll go through 10 cheap ones for every one of these

I have a Stihl that allows for attachments (edger, hedge trimmer, blower) and have had it about 5 years. Have had no issues with either the main unit or the attachments.

Got tired of throwing away Ryobi and Troy-built models every 3 years. Stihl is the real deal!

I went with a Husqvarna 2 stroke curved weed eater after doing a good bit of research online. It's consistently rated as one of the top brands. I've had it for about two years and it works great. I think I paid around $150.

Stihl and Echo are good, but since you asked, Shindaiwa is the best.

I can't believe this thing went this long w/o mentioning the best, easily over Echo and better than Stihl.

c262 is a new model this year but worth every penny. You'll go thru 20 POS's from your local hardware big box, as well as a couple of Echos. Mine is 16 yrs old and has been serviced once for cleaning and new fuel lines / prime bulb. It's worth every penny of the $379 price tag, time is money and this sucker makes quick work of edging and weed eating. I'm not going to say that Stihl is not a good machine but Shindaiwa to me is the king.

Only problem I've had with my Stihl is the spark arrestor screen on the weedeater, which loves to get clogged despite my using pure gas and Stihl HP Ultra oil. I finally got sick of cleaning it so removed it for good. The Stihl blower OTOH has no such issue, but I run it a lot less. These are both homemoaner models with the Easy2Start feature.

Maruyama makes commercial equipment that is number one in other areas of the world. Google commercial lawn service forums for Maruyama. They have a 5 years commercial warranty on string trimmers, so you know they have to be good. They have 23 different string trimmer models!!!!!!!!!
