I replaced both of my 52 gallon heaters last year - bought at Home Depot - Rheem 50 gallon - paid roughly 1100.00 for both - the actual price was a little under 500.00 for each - tax drove it up another 100.00

I have heard that the new water heaters are crap you are better off fixing the old one. Is that not correct?

This. Also got a 50 gallon gas Rheem for about $550 from Home Depot about a year ago. Can't recall the install charge, but it wasn't much.

I also have 2 tanks that are way old (25 yrs at least), and didn't mind having to upgrade that one.

Pimp, ur a baller. Get you a good contractor out there, get some new high volume gas water heaters and have him install a circulating system so that you always have hot water within an instant of turning on the tap.

To OP, avoid Rheem's hybrids. They are noisy AF, but they do cost a lot, so there's that.

If you have to call a plumber, Louis Mechanical is the best in BR.

if you get a tankless, do not vent it straight up. go vertical, have a short horizontal run, then go vertical out the roof. have drain tube at the bottom the vertical piece going out the roof.

i installed my first one according to the mfg plan, and the first rain destroyed it. when i called them about it, they said "oops, we'll send another one, but change the vent." its been 10 years now.
