The pace of cord-cutting accelerated in 2018, with the largest pay-TV providers shedding about 2.9 million video subscribers, nearly double the 1.5 million subscriber losses in 2017, according to the latest study by Leichtman Research Group.

Satellite distributors DirecTV and Dish Network suffered the bulk of the losses, a collective 2.36 million in 2018, up from 1.55 million in 2017.

Yikes!

The streaming services require no contracts, are typically cheaper and offer most of what I want anyway. I can go online and cancel it tonight and never have to talk to a person and hear a sales pitch.

Cable should have changed their model years ago.

If current trends continue ESPN will cease to be a profitable business in 2021 or 2022. Disney will have to subsidize them at that point. Will they?

It has taken me a while to get my head around not having wired cable but I'm fully on the "cutting the cord" bandwagon.

All of this, And cable companies have treated customers like shite for years and years. It isn’t a hard choice for most

Most cable companies are going to be internet companies going forward.

They will still make money.

Things like Hulu live are just quickening the cable companies demise. My parents aren't exactly the quickest to adapt to technology, but as soon as they heard they could watch live sports and news with Hulu, they immediately cut cable.

We started with Sling several years ago but have YouTubeTV now. I don't miss regular cable one bit. My dad only watches sports and he signed up so he could watch all of the LSU games on his computer. He doesn't own a TV

Local news-antenna

Just canceled Comcast cable yesterday. I would have done it a few years ago but my wife was a holdout. I finally convinced her to change her mind by showing her Hulu Live. Feels good, man.

Does this include people who still pay for internet through providers like Comcast but watch shows via Roku/PlayStation/whatever?

I actually cut cable back in like 2012 or 2013.

I have yet to regret it. It blows my mind why people still pay for that crap.

I haven’t missed a single thing i wanted to watch

ESPN isn’t making $7 a subscription off them like they are with cable and satellite. This is a well documented issue and problem for ESPN. Plenty of articles on the internet discussing this. ESPN is also losing millions quarterly with the ESPN+ app. People aren’t subscribing to it like they thought they would.

Which service has the best dvr setup? I believe I’ve tried direct tv now, fubo, and YouTube back when they all first launched, and everyone had something that annoyed me. Whether it was missing a certain local channel, dvr service was crappy or issues with buffering.

Also, most if not all of the providers only recorded in 720p. Does anyone offer 1080 dvr playback?
