Bull shite

Regardless the judge/settlement put a cap on the amount which goes against your statement.

This seems like an over reach by courts especially when based on a law over a hundred years old that allowed the amateur rules for the entirety of NCAA’s existence before this.

I’m guessing they want people to stop watching completely? I watch maybe 8 games a year now. It used to be my entire fall Saturday.

I have basically been done watching for a few years, but I would follow news on teams, use a play by play app, watch highlights somewhere online, and still buy merchandise (and maybe see a game if visiting). That’s done. I don’t think I will ever view a team as part of the school again.

fricking worst thing to happen to college football. Its not even fun to watch watch anymore with players switching schools every year .. it might as well be a called junior nfl league and do away with college entirely

The settlement should force the NFL and NBA to do away with age limits.

Wrong the worst thing was when the schools sold out to tv and the almighty dollar.

That started the era of big business, it lengthened games, and it destroyed traditions that had survived decades.

It’s officially minor league football but all tilted in the favor of the players.

Will they have to sign contracts?

College sports needs a full reset. Both coaches and players have lost their way.

Yeah I guess that was the start. Early stage capitalism is awesome.. late stage, not so much.. the value we’ve placed on entertainment has gotten so out of hand. I love football but this shite ain’t football. High school ball is atleast safe… for now

Big program football and basketball players have always gotten paid. Their “amateur” status was in name only.

I think the thing killing college sports more than NIL or paying players is no penalties for transfers. Only way a transfer should be no penalty is if the coach leaves for another job

I'm going to get an MBA from a small D2 or 3 school so I can start cheering for their teams.

I still love Alabama, and watch most of their games, but I've really enjoyed going to Grizz and Cat games, and even little NAIA schools like Montana Tech and Carroll College. It's less about fandom of the team and much more an expression of love for the schools, especially the latter two.

Those are self imposed hiring restrictions set by a private company.

Players are free to seek out the G league/arena league.

Will they still have to attend classes? Keep a GPA or code of conduct? Will they actually be student athletes at this point?

Was talking to BR native Braden Halloway about D1 swimming's future. He firmly believed when we spoke last year in Nola that Olympic sports would be gone in D1 and the NCAA would not be a governing body in ten years. This will strengthen D2 and NAIA quality, but your major players will fund football and basketball and then the ones already established in the niche sports would fully fund those sports. Schools will go the club model. Like may South American and European countries, schools will focus on limited sports and be go all in in just a few.

I’ve come to terms overall with the new landscape and actually think it could keep the outrageous coaching contacts in check which would be a positive.

With that said if there is going to be revenue sharing then these athletes need to get the real exposure to the market.

They asked for this.

Most of their tuition (majority of student athletes are NOT football) AND their free healthcare, meals, books, room, board has been off the backs of football.

The schools were happy to do so as long as the status quo was maintained. The players changed the status quo so they should get what they asked for.

Football players should share for football and that’s it.

Next come the lifting of eligibility restrictions.

You'll soon see players with 15-20 year college careers, absolutely annihilating all the record books.

Usually part of labor agreements and/or arbitration with unions.

They are unnecessarily restricting earnings based on an arbitrary age limit which is really an effort to use colleges as a development league. NFL needs to create its own minor league.

The judge like others is already overreaching by creating a de facto minor league with NCAA college sports based on a law that allowed the behavior for a century. What’s another?
