This warship was originally named after John S. McCain Sr., and John S. McCain Jr., both admirals in the United States Navy. John S. McCain Sr. commanded the aircraft carrier USS Ranger, and later the Fast Carrier Task Force during the latter stages of World War II. John S. McCain Jr. commanded the submarines USS Gunnel and USS Dentuda during World War II. He subsequently held a number of posts, rising to commander-in-chief of the United States Pacific Command, before retiring in 1972. These men were, respectively, the grandfather and father of Vietnam War Navy captain and later Senator John S. McCain III.]

That’s a Trijicon VCOG. Anyone with half a fricking brain should have known it was on backwards

The way it works is the Captain has like 5 minutes to get from the bridge to the fantail to get a photo op in. He's not looking over anything because he has 1 minute to get that shoot done and be back on the bridge. Someone set him up. Probably a DEI sailor.

Fwiw, most of the navy and air force never touches a firearm from the time they give their oath till separation. Firearms were removed from bootcamp before I got there in 91.

Would you rather be this guy or Brian Kelly right now?

Ten crewmen were killed and the C.O. and X.O. were removed. At some point in the last couple of years, Yaste served as X.O. of the ship and became C.O. about a year ago.
—-Wow, that ship seems cursed.

The AF still has weapons qualification during basic, depending on one's job, there's either periodic re-qualification or "just in time" qualification before a deployment, certain TDYs, etc.
