Honey. I cut out all refined sugar, and only use local honey. I didn't have to use Claritin or Flonase this spring. First time in 10 years.

Interesting gaps in your story. How big a bag was this?

If he had eaten an equivalent amount of cane sugar, do you think he would have been "just fine"?
If he had eaten an equivalent amount of chocolate, would he have been "just fine"?
Another thing to recall is that dogs react to foods differently than folks. Now, I don't want anyone to think that I'm saying Stevia is perfectly fine, either. If I could drink coffee black - I would. I prefer it with sweetener (and half and half - I gave up that aluminum powdered crap years ago, thankfully). If I couldn't handle Stevia or something else natural, I would go back to sugar or do without.

My son is part of the Keto diet cult. They swear by this noxious concoction.

Dietitian told me to only use raw local honey

This is excellent advice if you have hayfever or seasonal allergies. If not, you can tolerate honey from other locations and it can help your immune system. I do recommend raw, organic (or as organic as possible, my beekeeper does treat the colony for a common illness, but he does it immediately after the honey harvest) and locally produced whenever possible.

Cyclical ketogenic diet in the setting of intermittent fasting for me.
I also use some stevia from time to time.
There is good science supporting what I listed (every ingredient listed has a specific purpose except for vanilla (taste)).
Ketogenic diets also have their merits, but they are not for everyone. More people would benefit by eating a ketogenic based diet than the standard American dietary recommendations.

I recently came down with ringing in the ears...really bad and continuous. discovered that it was way worse when I ate anything with artificial sweetners. Dang stuff can affect nerve endings~and starts with the ears!!! frick. stopped using them. However, the natural sweetners do the same thing but to a lessor degree. frick again. So, like the guy said, try to stop all the sweetners, it will be worth it.

Your son must be a beast
Here is a good discussion on ketogenic diets from a reputable source for those interested (not Jenny McCarthy)
