Im assuming that the price will keep on going up if the winter stays cold through spring since supplies are pretty low right now compared to years past.

Cutting the nuts right out of the Middle East.

As a gas trader I can tell you its been great for me and my company being on the right side of this. But I know a few shops that are on the wrong side and are racking up huge losses. The run will continue. I see Jan contract at a 5 handle soon.
Eta: your basic assumption is correct. low inventory and a wicked cold forecast is causing the run. Dec-Apr are way up, May forward are down.

I don’t trade nat gas, but doesn’t the run up happen every year on the first big cold fronts?

Not like this. This similar to 2014 polar vortex run. I think its a 10 year high overall. I can check when I get back to my desk.

Wonderful. Really enjoyed my $400 gas bills last year. Can’t wait to see them again.

They had a big line in Mississippi blow the other day and might be down awhile. That could be the cause plus the cold weather .

Probably makes minimal difference as far as coal is concerned

Ha good question. If I were him I would have taken my money and quit.

The cold signal has gotten pretty pronounced over the past couple of days. Big swing into a negative NAO (cold eastern USA and cold Europe) projected and a couple other features suggesting the cold to continue in the east and more big cold blasts in December and January. Not surprised in the slightest to see natural gas taking off today.

A line down in MS would only marginally affect regional prices. The enbridge blow out in Canada recently affected prices all over the west coast.

Aligns with what our in-house met said earlier this morning. Good for business.
