Apparently this affected the DMV too, cause I went to get my license renewed this morning and they said all the computers are down.

. Everyone in the office that didn’t log off the server is blue screen. Pulled out the cat 5 cable, tried to reboot off line , blue screen.

What is most alarming about this situation is the over-reliance on technology and third-party services for our critical infrastructure, coupled with our glaring inability to function without them. A solitary error on a single update to Crowdstrike software on Microsoft platforms triggered global chaos in travel, banking, and healthcare. Instead of incessantly pursuing the latest technological advancements, we must prioritize developing systems that can swiftly operate independently of such technology.

Almost everyone on my flight connections were delayed. It shouldn’t be an issue if you’re in the same airline.

Many of the state’s systems are down, my girlfriend (no pics) works in IT, she’s not having a good day.
Has this hit POS systems in places like gas stations, stores, restaurants, etc? My former employer isn’t having any issues, benefiting from always being several years behind on technology updates.

I just got off in Denver and nearly all monitors are down. Looks just like that pic.

The problem as systems get more complicated and interconnected is that the test environment is never exactly the same as the online system.
I don’t know the details here, but that is my best guess at what happened.
Pretty good guess. From what I hear most government operations (at least Fed) aren't affected. They don't push updates real time, which saved them.

my old boss told me a story about 9/11 and when was managing an airline at a regional airport
he got a call that a ton of flights were headed his way. No real details besides get prepared. Walked out of his office saw 9/11 TV
As people filed out planes that were supposed to land anywhere from Atlanta to LA. One by one people started yelling "i got a rental, I am going to Dallas" "i am going to Miami" whatever
by noonish the airport was peacefully cleared out.
He would tell this story as a parable to say that no matter how hard the shite hits the fan we can react respective to get thru it.
I have a feeling the airports aren't that peaceful today

Thanks for missing the point entirely.
The point being is that our critical systems need the ability to be quickly run independently if need be when an error such as this occurs. This appears to have been an error in programming. Imagine what someone with malicious intent could have done?

Sure.
Are companies willing to pay the additional personnel to make that happen? No.
Case in point, when Change Healthcare went down a few months back we had to go to paper billing again. None of the insurance carriers were ready for that and we’re still dealing with billing issues from it.
