Nationwide IT outage for American, Delta united and Southwest Airlines

This is gonna cause a royal ripple suckage for a while for sure.

Edit: it's a worldwide IT outage for airlines that is grounding all outgoing flights

Cyber terrorism?

Current reason is a bad Microsoft update.

Just got an email from IT dept, it reads most of the problems have been resolved. If still having issues, reboot safe mode and remove problem file that was pushed out.

Had a 11:30 pm flight out of SLC that was canceled. Was stuck on airplane until like 1:30 AM. Decided to bail, rebook for later this evening and got a room at The Cliff Lodge at Snowbird

Their current workaround:

Boot Windows into Safe Mode or the Windows Recovery Environment
Navigate to the C:\Windows\System32\drivers\CrowdStrike directory
Locate the file matching “C-00000291*.sys”, and delete it.
Boot the host normally

So the claim it's a Microsoft update issue is because Crowdsource is passing along a bad WINs update? Sucks for MS.

So this work around is essentially just bringing it back to the prior settings by finding/deleting the recent bad CS update, right?

Oh phew; the way it reads on twitter is that each individual computer affected needs to reboot in safe mode and delete the individual file which seems like something that would take forever across major bloated companies lol. So they only have to do that if the new update doesn’t work? Maybe things won’t be so bad…

Don't know about specific airports but the airlines themselves are being grounded.

American, United, Delta, and Allegiant are ones I've heard for sure.

Get comfy this ripple is gonna be a biatch.

I'm browsing most flights on flightaware and a lot of things look to be on time today. If there's any delays it appears to be as a result of the cancellations last night which ended up forcing cancellations on the early morning return flights today

This is funny. The same software that is fricked controls the boards showing delays cancellations etc.

So everything looks fine on the surface, but you can’t even call to make changes because they use the same software for booking.

Agent says atl is at capacity today whatever that means.

Gonna be ugly

Our gate agent told us about around 45mins ago that American was releasing flights now but is doing so based on order of originally scheduled departure as well as crew availability- timing out on hours etc

According to fox 8 - Delta flights at minimum are delayed 2 hours. Passengers are able to board but take off is not possible due to the outage.

Everyone must check in at kiosk right now. That is going to be a total disaster.

Unsure if this is just delta or all airlines at MSY.

I’m at Bush and when I was going the security I passed the Delta check in and I was wondering WTF was going on. About to board Southwest and everything seems fine. Idk.
